6910 – Thor’s Day

Training went well.. a good number of concerned parents showed up, and everything rolled smoothly. Big Kahuna was a surprise visitor… must’ve come right over after getting off of the plane. The School staff was wonderfully courteous and very helpful… the media center brought back many memories as a page, cataloger and bookstore employee. I always did like the kid’s books the most.

Tech trouble seems to be simmered down now. Hopefully it’ll stay that way.

I’ve been getting into the habit of picking up a little dinner once a week or so on the way home from work at this little carribean diner over by the bus stop. I’ve become rather well-liked there, because I appreciate good food, and take a moment to talk to the folks during the slow times. Lots of Veggie, even Vegan options to eat, which surprised me, and is what keeps me coming back. Good food, lots of it, inexpensive and a friendly atmosphere. What’s not to like? There are advantages to not looking like a suit… I think folks there are a lot more comfortable talking with a “clean cut” hippie-type guy, at least at first. They make a Veggie-mango stir-fry sort of thing that is awesome, and the plantains are decadent.

6907 – Humpday!

Bro called and apologized for bailing on Monday. Maybe I can take him out to lunch sometime this week.

Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam

Oktoberfest is coming… maybe I won’t totally miss it this year. Chicken Dance!

Downloaded Dawn of War demo… it’s really nice. A typical build your resources, make an army , hold your ground game, like age of empires, but graphically amazing… and amazingly graphic. Definitely M for mature. The voice talent is sweet, too. Multiplayer must be a hoot.

I’m doing a community meeting with the local police tonight… Hopefully that’ll fly well. The map stuff always impresses folks.

The Bugmenot plugin for mozilla is great… never have to worry about registering at any news site again… the way it should be.

LA to New York, time lapse drive. pretty spiffy. (quicktime embedded on page, w/sound)

Marvel’s Looking for voice talent for an Avengers Animated movie.

The sample working scripts are sort of cringeworthy.

6906 – Turn Lemons into lemonade.

Well, bro bailed on his birthday bash a full 5 minutes before he was going to be picked up. That’s got to be some kind of record. I’m thinking that odds favor the theory that he got a better offer and wasn’t even calling from home. The “I’m going to lay down, and sleep… I probably won’t hear if Mom knocks on the door” line is what makes me think so.

So, instead of getting together with the family, I was suddenly free. What to do?

Simple answer? Make beefaroni! (vegetarian style, natch)

I had macaroni, veggie burger crumbles, and some awesome oniony-garlic tomato sauce… works for me!

I’ve never mentioned things that my mother was good at preparing for dinner…. beefaroni reminds me of her stuffed peppers, which was probably her specialty. I should try to reproduce that sometime.

Went through, and flushed out some old games that were taking up HD space. (I can always reinstall if the urge returns) – I’m getting the itch to put on a few fat new games. (Sims 2, Doom 3, Battlefront, and that tasty looking Warhammer Dawn of War game. Orks in Goggles!– related:Translate English to Ork )

Bye bye for now to –

  • Grand Theft Auto – Vice City (That’ll come back, as soon as I get the itch to bash someone’s skull in with a bat)
  • Final Fantasy XI – 5+ GIG??!
  • Call of Duty
  • The Hulk
  • There Beta (I kept the “real” version)
  • America’s Army (2-some gig right there)
  • Warcraft III (and Frozen Throne)
  • Simpsons Hit & Run
  • Tron 2.0
  • Army Men (How long was that rattling around in there?)

That, and killing some old movies freed up about 23 gig. Amazing. (About of 53 gig free on the drive, now)

A nice defrag after, and Big Brain should spin like a top, now.

While Big Brain got his head together, I took a little walk to the local zebbin-lebbin, and got a nice diet -pepsi slushie for dessert.

walkies walkies
out and about on bro’s b’day – may as well do something! nice to look at the bright lights and take in the night air.

Home of the uber-slushie… better for me than ice cream, more flavorful than celery.

A virtual exhibit to accompany the Bernice Layne Brown Gallery installation in Doe Library, July 6th to September 29th, 2004

Tonight is the full moon…. and I smile every time I see the halo surrounding her.

Yesterday’s Worth1000 photoshopping challenge is to create the ruins of cities that are still standing. Some tasty post-apocalyptic visions here

6905 – undifferentiated tissue process (ts-77ix)

Today is my bro’s 32nd birthday. I’ll be getting together with him after work tonight for supper and presents. No giving him cash or easily swapped out items this year… I’m going to help him fix up his truck so he can make some money doing post-hurricane cleanup around the tri-county area. Help him to help himself.

Samples of the courtyard before and after Jeanne came through. Who knew so many leaves were left after the first two ‘canes? All the old leaves were just raked out, too. Ah well!

2 small piccies

6904 – Some pictures and Misc.

Well, aside from a few power spikes that caused a reboot or seventeen, I seem to have come through the front end of the storm just fine. It’s mighty moist outside, but wind has settled way down.

Here’s some pictures of the empty streets around the Elbo Room yesterday (as opposed to the first day of the Hurricane season, which featured fembots.)

3 images of Las Olas and A1A / Ghost Town, pre-storm

6901 – Flash can really optimize gifs!

I’m not too worried about Hurricane Jeanne… but I am concerned about Jewish folks (Florida has something like 600k of ’em) not listening to TV or radio, and might not be as up to date on the weather as they should be. Jewish law says you put Jewish requirements aside if there is any danger. I also worry about Pensacola. So much debris is very dangerous…and folks are still trying to recover from the last hubbub.

On a lighter note, I’m amused by so many people referring to Jeanne’s loopy path as a “Dipsy-doodle”.

6899 – Weekend rushes to the forefront.

Well, I just don’t get it… I’ve trimmed back MM’s hours, and *still* she bails on Saturday, the day before. Very disappointing, and I feel taken advantage has been taken, especially since Sat is Kev’s b’day, too. I’m glad I’ve got an auxiliary on call person that can do some weekends, now…. but I’m going to put my foot down about schedule ditching at the last minute. This stuff has got to be trimmed back.

It’s Friday. Not much planned for the weekend, as can be seen from above. I’m going to shoot for some personal Scotto-time Sunday, I think. I’m in a better mood than my entry seems to show.

To a big ol’ beast like me, 12oz. bottles of water are laughable and wasteful. Just give me a few gallon jugs, and be done with it. 12 oz doesn’t even make a proper-sized spill when kicked over.

C-Mon & Kypski’s – Shittybum – Very cool video… Reminds me a bit of my trip to Vizcaya.

1 year ago – IHOP with Kev & Bheesh, Rose, Zombie Pinups, Space Art in Kids books, Title caps.

2 years ago – mental fog, Finn & Chupa aren’t loved, sculpey, eraser clay

3 years ago – Fussing sans A/C, Word association poll, KFC Japan

4 years ago – The Laundry event, Newt, Cherry Coke, Quit the Everway Group, one day until I meet Hala.

Current Mood: Bob Ross talking about happy little trees makes me laugh.

Current Music: Ookla the Mok – Super Powers

6898 – Status report

Ok, let’s see.

All the Libras in the house go “whoop-whoop!”

In the days and weeks ahead I’ve got some biggies in my life- (in order of bdays)

Kev, Bro, Newt, Hala.

Kev’s Easy. Sci-fi, Pizza, and good wishes. Maybe some emulated Atari ST games. Star Glider, and Battle of Britain are sure to please.

I’ll probably get Bro a game or two to play on his X-Box, and take him to a movie/dinner.

Newt… every day is that little goober’s birthday. A cardboard box filled with paperwads will make him a happy-happy camper.

Not telling what Hala’s getting, in case of snoop-a-doop.

6897 -Thursday. K-lunch today.

Speaking of Archives –

1 year ago – monkey-pops/injustice, free movies, more on Ohio case, Nosy coworkers, lovely chat

2 years ago – Peace Corps dream, Conan O’Brien smells bad, palm doodles,

3 years ago – fisher King, Flag treatment, cyborg roaches, bring back art nouveau.

I’ve got the urge to do some silly video-editing/movie making. Maybe next walkabout, I’ll get some good footage to fool with.

Another view of the soul – Egyptian

The ancient Egyptians named at least four components of the soul: the ka was the vital life force, and dwelt within the corpse after death; the ba was the soul proper, and the part that actually went on to the underworld; the khu represented spiritual intelligence, and the ren was one’s name. Two other concepts may have been related to the soul: the sekhem, an embodiment of one’s power, and the khaibit, one’s shadow. It’s definitely the ka that would animate an undead mummy, but khaibit seems like a prime candidate for manipulation by evil necromancy.
