Snow! The neighborhood, Pye playing, and Pye & Newt watching from inside on cam. Pye just loves the snow, but it confuses poor Newt. Clicks embiggen.

A wave of low pressure will continue to bring snow and sleet to the area today. A brief lull in the precipitation is expected this afternoon… before a second  stronger low pressure wave will bring a wintry mix of precipitation tonight and Wednesday. Precipitation will be mainly in the form of snow and sleet this evening… but a change over to freezing rain and rain is expected overnight as warmer air is drawn into the system. Temperatures will remain in the lower 30s Wednesday  allowing for the rain to freeze on some surfaces.

Total snow and sleet accumulations through Tuesday night will be 2 to 4 inches and total ice accumulations for Tuesday night through Wednesday morning will be one to two tenths of an inch.

Didn’t get together with Todd today – the weather was too bad to drive to meet him. We made it home ok – all of the soft poweder of the morning had a layer of slick ice over the top of it. I’m glad that we managed to see him yesterday! It sounds like he had a good time checking out the monuments – I’m sure that they were extra nifty-looking with the layers of snow everywhere.

Had Pigs in Blankets for dinner, with string beans on the side. pretty nummy!

Watched some Psych (Sort of lackluster episode about firemen/arsonists) and part of The Beast before hitting the sack – until later, dear journal!

Went out with Larry this morning to have the green truck looked at (no relation to the element issues) – It was a nice guy’s morning out, even though we were stymied at every attempt to get the truck looked over by a mechanic. Same thing happened when we went to look for breakfast – Denny’s and The Double T diner was jam packed, so we headed closer to home from Annapolis, and were lucky enough to see Selby’s unofficially open – they were there baking the bread and goodies for later in the day. We got some scrambled eggs and toast – worked for us!

We stopped off at the blue house, and rotated the tires – we’ll see if that fixed the humming in the long run – right now, the sound is good.

After doing truck-work, Larry applied another coat of laquer to the guitar – it’s coming along nicely – my photos don’t do the grain any justice whatsoever.

Got home, and was feeling pretty bad again in the ol’ gizzard – BHK and I went to Calvert Kettle Corn to get Sean part of his birthday snack – we refilled his 2 gallon bucket, brought some ice cream, and BHK made him a lovely blue cake with cherry chips inside.

Spent a little time at the Masnpergers – good karaoke and birthday fun, but my gut was bugging me and we headed home. I had a few crackers for dinner, but basically took it easy.

New Dr. Who was pretty good – the last episode before the 08 finale – "turn left" – I don’t know what was up with Rose’s lisp, though.Hurt her teeth?

BHK brought the element in for an alignment at the dealer today. Mechanical issue, it turns out. Insurance should cover it, but it has to be looked over first.

The moon was orbiting pretty close tonight, I nearly banged my head on it. My gut is still out of whack – I may have to go to the doctor tomorrow if this keeps up. Cereal and Milk for dinner – that should soothe a bit.

I have an irrational fear of post-getting a tattoo – I figure that as soon as I get one, I’ll accidentally scar my body in a way as to make the design appear torn or crooked.

That said, I don’t know what sort of tattoo I’d ever get.

Back to Work -workworkwork – played catch-up for missing Monday. I was tired to begin with, and now, end of day, I’m dead tired.

Randy Rogers off to work with M.A.D.D. – good for him! I hope the rest of the crew get as good a break as he did.

I dreamt the other day that we adopted all the stray kitties in town, and BHK named the orange one with white feet "Bagel". The other cats didn’t have names, but Bagel was extra naughty – knocking over anything that was knock-over-a-ble.

We loved him (her?) anyway. BHK hollered "BAYYYYYY-GULLLLLLL" every so often when he was acting up.

After work, we did the once a week night ritual of soda and scratch-offs –  no money was won, but we did locate ome tasty chips to go with dinner from subway.

BHK took the Element in to have the tires replaced, but there was trouble with aligning it – She’s bringing it to the dealer tomorrow, to see what the situation is.

Watched a little Gordon Ramsay and Doctor Who, and now we’re off to bed.

Beware the 13th!

Sick as a very sick dog. Got as far as the Metro station, and turned around and went home as I started hacking like a plague victim. BHK spun me around and home we went. Coughing due to infection blended with poor lungs in the bitter cold and firewood smoke, I think.

Slept most of the day. Ate some noodle soup, saltines, and a lot of ginger ale.

Eyes too tired to read – drained the Tivo remaining Dr. Who episodes. I liked the evil "shadow monster in the library planet" episode – fun, goofy, but spooky and sad, too.

Newton, Pye and BHK are all excellent caretakers while I’m a big sick baby.

Learned a little bit about Rescue Ink – tough guys helping out animals.

This morning we headed over to the first day of the Annapolis Winter farmer’s market – not a lot of vendors yet, but I’m guessing it’ll grow.  We picked up some turnips, soap, coffee for cheap and a localvore mag for free of note was the spiffy alpaca stuff.

On the way home, we swung by 3rd eye comics and I caught up on my ambush bug – also got the Munchkin Quest boardgame & an Obama comic for BHK.

Visited Best Buy to peek at the eee netbooks, and the acer one – maybe a goodie for us later on this year (not purchasing at BB, though – online has better deals). $200 for a laptop with internet isn’t too shabby.

After that we came home – watched die monster die (boris karloff flick loosely based on "the colour out of space"), the soup, mr meaty, and corpse bride, sanctuary… tried to soak up as much rest as we could, but I still ending up pooped, so I took apart train set under the Christmas Tree, and now we’re tucking in to bed.

I got to skip shots today! BHK and I pretty much just took it easy. We watched a good bit of TV – The first and second "Librarian" movies – cute for made for TNT flicks. We still have the third on the recorder. I also watched an episode of Freakylinks – forgot how inspired by Blair Witch the show was. I may or may not watch the remaining episodes, depending on how much shaky-cam film style I can take.

Ear ache is really rough today, but the compresses improve matters a *lot*.

Pictures are of a model house burning down at the local motorcylce store’s train display (the same one with the squirrels) – not to woory – this model is designed to look like it’s burning down, complete with smoke and lights.

Hap-Pye New(t) Year!

At this rate, I’ll break 10,000 entries by this time next year… of course, some entries are beefier than others.. I’ve been cheating a bit with the picture posts – still haven’t done a breakdown of my holiday loot yet!

But for now, a recap of recent history –

BHK took Amy to Urgent care last night, as her dog bite was getting more infected – worried about swelling and red marks. While they were at the doc’s, Shaun and I played Easter Island (I won!), and watched Bones on TV with my in-laws. The girls got back about 45 minutes later, and Amy’s wound was freshly cleaned and re-wrapped with gauze.

After the ball dropped, the in-laws headed off, and the rest of us played witch trial into the wee hours. (BHK took that one, but Amy wasn’t far behind. I really thought I would win! d’oh!)

Amy, Shaun W, BHK, the in-laws and I rose at about 10am, (after staying up until 3ish) and headed off to Gina’s Cantina for a nibble on some tasty brunch. No sign of Tyson or Gina, but the food was tasty and abundant, as usual.

BHK napped a bit and then did some work while Amy & I play Lego star wars / Mario Land 8 on the wii for about 4 hours. I feel pretty guilty about that – I wish we had another controller, or could have played something amongst the three of us.

Amy grew concerned about her issue – BHK went out to get some fresh bandages for her, and if she doesn’t feel significantly better by tomorrow morning, she’ll probably head home.

My earache also started kicking up – could not eat dinner tonight as it hurt to chew. Going to the doc tomorrow, so my appointment timing is good.

Farewell, 2008! It was a pretty nice time, all told.

BHK, the in-laws, Shaun W, and Amy all made it to hang out, eat snacks, and stay up until the extra :60 rolls over.

9555- Saturday

Got my allergy shots – down to only needing them every other week, now!

Still feeling yucky – took a nap today from 3-6 pm, and my crown feels a little loose. Maybe an infection under there is messing with me? Or maybe it’s the big dose of meds today.

In-laws came over, and we had tasty soup and sammiches. I’m still not eating much, but can certainly enjoy what I am eating.

After eats, we finally finished hanging the ornaments on the tree. All that is left now is to set up the train… and maybe a few fun bits of landscape. The green beaded string didn’t show up too well on the tree this year, so we strung our holiday cards over the living room window, and it looks sharp. I think we may do this in years to come.

The in-laws headed home a little while ago – they stopped out front of our house with the engine running, and called inside to let us know that Chris lost an earring – while we were looking for it, BHK heard yelling on the phone – it turns out a pedestrian walked up to the truck, opened the door, and then took off when Larry yelled at him.

Chris and Larry went home, but BHK got the guys description and called the police. I suspect it was a drunk looking for a ride – that’s still not the sort of thing you want to take place in your front yard. We talked to the sheriff, and they sent prowl cars around, but he didn’t turn up.

[EDIT – Later that evening, just up the street (about 5 blocks closer to the bay) –

Thursday…just about done watching the first season of  Dexter. It’s interesting, but I think the sister should’ve worked out the deal, long ago, no matter how well trained he might be, or her lack of curiosity.

Feeling a bit fatigued lately, but getting there. I need to send my brother a card or something, congratulating him on being a father, I guess. Somehow, I’m not feeling too festive about it. Ah well – I don’t even know if the little girl will carry his last name or not. Momster is elated about having a grandchild under any circumstances, which is a good attitude, I think. The baby is healthy and happy, as far as I know – can’t ask for much more than that!

Got our first holiday prezzies – Oranges and other citrus from folks in Florida, and an amazon box from Kev. BHK made sure that I did’nt see the invoice slip – He sent his gift wrapped, I neglected to put amazon wrap on the stuff we sent him – I hope my stuff makes it to Cuba in a timely way.

Tomorrow is the holiday party at the office – we’ll see how the terrible twosome of BHK and Scotto do at party games for gift card winnings!

wednesday -what did we do today, aside from work, eat and now head off to sleep?? not a lot – just relaxed and snoozed by the tv with christmas specials going, and that is just fine by me.

BHK made some tasty Broccoli-cheese soup, and veggie taquitos, and it was scarfed down with great gusto.

Ernest is a 15-year-old cat who lives at a shelter in Godshill on the Isle of Wight. He suffers from entropion, a condition where the eyelids roll inward and cause inflammation. Surgery might correct the condition, but veterinarians were concerned about how such an old cat would react to an anesthetic. The solution? Contact lenses! The lenses protect Ernest’s eyes from his eyelids. Before, he had trouble seeing where he was going, but now has a new lease on life, according to shelter workers.

Monday- Off to Physical Therapy after work, and BHK made tasty brats & kraut (with apples and green peppers – veggie bratwurst for me)

Visiting the Ortho tomorrow – PT is not progressing as well as I’d hoped – maybe something more aggressive is in order.

I can do stretches and light aerobics – I’d like to try some weight training / weight lifting to see if I can strengthen up better than I have.

Getting back into Kolchak: The Night Stalker – the episodes have held up pretty well over time. I really liked the UFO episode – ("They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be…") – The monster was never really seen, but it had a good vibe. ( The Moss Monster "Père Malfait" was nifty to see too… I’m surprised Wikipedia doesn’t have an entry for that particular beastie. I may fix that later on.)

BHK and I watched the Xmas episode of Monk – not the best, but it was worth it to see Leland sans moustache. I wonder what gigs the actors will get, now that the show is pretty much in the can?

The Psych Holiday show was fairly good, too, but the police side of the cast was pretty thin.

I got so caught up in Sedef’s passing, that I forgot that it was my Father’s Birthday today. That’s not even it… I didn’t realize that today was the 25th until I looked at the memo for this afternoon’s company meeting – Sort of a punch on top of a punch there. I’ll update/ do the comparison thing tomorrow, probably.

I can’t believe that in 5 more years, there won’t be any more age comparison items… He passed at 44 years old – I’m 39, now.

BHK is working at the food bank tomorrow with Kim Martucci and co at WUSA9. I bet they’ll have a good time doing good works – I wish I could go with ’em!

Got my Holiday scheduled for 12/24-1/2 this time around. I’ll still be "on call", but hopefully there won’t be many fires to put out.

Well, I’m ready for bed – BHK made some fantastic quiche to go with dinner salad, so I’m packed to the gills. Combine that with a little TV, and I’m zonked. I’m caught up with the shield, now – not sure what other tivo’ed things to consult next. Journeyman? Eli Stone?

I’m watching Dexter on the PSP during the Metro trip into work. 3 episodes in now, and It’s not too bad thus far. I still really don’t find myself sympathetic to him – still seems quite the monster, despite his only "killing bad people". I guess I just like my protagonist to be a good guy, and not a serial killer.

Feeling better today. Physical Therapy seems to be working out some of the back issues, thankfully. Mentally and physically in a more positive place – also, sundown was at 4:45 today. I certainly suspect that I don’t have Seasonal Affective Disorder. I think that the dark and cold weather mostly suits me, even if I try to be a warm and cheery sort of person.

After PT we went to Mexico for supper. I was perversely hungry for Mexican food after seeing a filthy Mexican resaurtant on Kitchen Nightmares yesterday. The food was superb – BHK and I both sussed out that it was the cook that sometimes works in Lusby on the kitchen tonight.

My mom met Shannon and her possible granddaughter – (well, by proxy – Shannon is still pregnant, due in a month or so.) I’m still not sure how that’s going to pan out.

Newt is really enjoying the ledge in the loft these days… one of the warmest spots in the house! I hope he shares with Pye, at least a bit. Hm.. somehow I doubt it. Interesting that his winter coat is a bit more visible than usual – likely that he and Pye were running around pretty heavily before naptime.

Physical Therapy today. Leg lifts, stretches, bicycle, and then the stim/heat combo that works so well for me. I needed it – I was really stiff yesterday.

Forgot to mention yesterday that Chris and Larry brought over a couple of preacher cookies for us… much better than the last batch a year ago – see archive below.

While I was fixing BHK’s machine, I was multitasking a bit – catching up with scripting, listening to old episodes of Dragnet in the background – The radio show is really superior to the TV series. Additionally – I listened a bit to some of my old time radio broadcasts. OTRcat sent me a nice collection of Richard Diamond not too long ago in exchange for a link on my website – the clarity on them was excellent, especially given that the condition of the original recordings must’ve been a real problem to fix. I’ll be looking to go back to him for more OTR goodies as time goes by. Dick Powell is no slouch as a voice actor, and I’m really pretty glad to have my collection filled out. (5 CDs worth of stuff, I’ve only begun to begin to listen. (I’m thinking about getting the Edgar Allan Poe Collection next – maybe for road trips through Baltimore)
