6824 – The trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw.

Took myself out to lunch and a movie yesterday afternoon. AvP was much less than what I expected. Very poorly directed… the last thing I want from an action movie is to be bored. It made me want to go back to play the first person shooter, so maybe that’s what they were going for… more video game sales. The effects were quite good, but that’s about it… I’m guessing they went pg-13 to bring in a younger contingent, and a lot of it could’ve been improved with more visual direction. I should’ve gone to see Bourne, instead.

Lunch was better… cheese trio sammich at Blimpie. I stopped off at the library after, to cool off before making the march home.

Note to self, bus schedules have changed, download new pdfs to palm.

I wonder how long it’ll be before they try for a Land of The Lost movie now? Or maybe Ultraman (in the US – I can’t seem to find any of the old Asian ones on Bittorrent)? I just like scary humanoids with big round eyes, and head-fins. (I already got my Rocketeer movie.)

Pictures from my day’s Walkabout:

6822 Thank goodness it’s Saturday.

Made it through another week!

I don’t know why I drew this guy… it just sort of doodled itself.

Did Laundry, and gave the cab driver some much needed schooling on how to do his job, including the art of pulling into the driveway, and giving him the tip of “next time, offer to help with my double armload of things, or at least offer to help with the door. I’m usually a good tipper, but now you get nothing.” And paid his exact fare in laundry quarters. He cussed me out as he drove off, so I called the cab company, and reported him for his poor behavior.

Up late, slept late… there wasn’t even any rain for me last night, unlike so much of the regions North –

6821 Friday, Friday… Friday the 13th.

The closer the time comes for the big kahuna to leave town, the more irritable and stressed she becomes. She bites off more than she can chew inside the time frame allotted to her,

Looks like non-pierce tech is doing a fadeout. He hasn’t called all week. He didn’t seem like a big hit, so no big whoop.

20,000 leagues under the sea – The ride. I really dig the quicktime video of the ride.. very nostalgic. I remember sitting on the fold down seats and being inside on my own, while my dad and mom went to get some ice cream or the like for my brother, who was perhaps four at the time. (that’d put me at eight-ish.) The last time I got to ride it was the summer of ’87. (when I was 18, almost a decade later.) After that, the ride was closed for renovations every time I visited. I still remember the pseudo Disney squeezebox music waiting on line… It was in my top three rides with the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Speaking of that fellow, my Bro got 2 years probation, despite the fact that he showed up at court with beer on his breath, and was saying idiot phrases like “if I’m convicted, I can’t have a gun”. I don’t know where his brains went, but they’ve long since been disbursed. I know in my heart that if his probation officer is worth anything at all, my bro will be jailed before the year is done.

I really don’t like it when reanimated corpses vomit on me, and even less so when the explosive charges inside them go off afterwards. (dang supervillains in CoH!)

Well, it looks like Chuck the Storm is going to miss my neck of the woods entirely. Power went out last night at about 1:30m, and heavy rain woke me up before knocking me back to sleep. Sorry Charlie. (how many times will I hear that in the days to come?) I hope it cuts everyone else some decent slack, too!

The Horny toad is not a toad. It’s a Lizard.

6820 – Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

My head is just bouncing around topics this morning.

Random stuff, all, undivided by the hr-tag I use so much these days:

I used to get Lea Thompson and Ally Sheedy mixed up. Same goes for Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

I think the whole thing about dark matter / dark energy seems unlikely.

I could never remember the name of Doug Wu’s friend Tony who gamed with us as Silver Hammer, until I realized it was like the two main characters on Time Tunnel. Doug is in Seattle now, and Tony was lost to the social cult of Amway.

Some poor woman was trapped in the building’s elevator yesterday. I got to try and talk calmly to her and keep her from freaking out until the fire department arrived. That office space has the same stuff since the 50’s… It reminded me of when my sweetheart nearly got her arm bitten off by a carnivator in her old office spacer.

I did my apheresis (Plateletpheresis) yesterday, for the first time in a long while… it feels really good perform a charity while laying on a couch and watching cartoons.

I have terrible night vision.

I have a high threshold of pain, but once you pass it, I’m done.

Rhode Island plays with a pair of crystals (amethyst and quartz) as a form of nervous fidget. I can’t help but think of Queeg’s ball bearings in The Caine Mutiny whenever I hear her clacking them together.

1 year ago – Neverwhere, childhood memories circa ’74-75ish – lunch and Tonka toys, linked to hulk’s blog, bro stuff, Elvis & his prosthetic limb factory

2 years ago – Spanish TV, broken links, new he-man cartoon, mark quits FMM before he’s caught stealing, puppy pictures and palm doodles.

3 years ago – Soylent Green Tea Ice Cream at the Frieze in Miami, after seeing Kiss of the Dragon with my bro, cavort, first exp w/ Samurai Jack, Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

4 years ago – saw the hollow man movie, and played Everway, day before sleep study.

Oh, I can’t resist. Some HR goodness. until later, dear journal.

6818 – Bro update, and etcetera

Bro’s scheduled for 1:30 on Thursday. I imagine that unless something comes up that he’ll get two years probation. if he stays out of trouble, I imagine that would even be cut down a bit. The last few times I’ve spoken with him, he seemed to be fairly clear of mind and in good spirits.

Pierced new guy seems to be ok… has a quirky sense of humor, and seems to get it when I crack a joke about the Knights Templar. Unpunctured one seems less likely to make it as a tech. He reminds me a lot of bad-luck Schleprock.

So many changes on the company website… it boggles the mind how big it has grown. Hundreds and hundreds of pages… something for all 50 states, news reports, bios, etc. A real learning curve, but it’s definitely worth it. I wish that I could devote more time to the site, but so many other elements sneak up on me…. maybe when more new folks are trained, and I get the telephony server happy.

6817 – yackkity-schmakkity

The art of building in South Florida is amazing to me at times… How completely different a region can get, even over the span as short as a month. The gas station across from the laundromat I do my wash has turned into an empty lot, without even a trace of a pump or pavement. Two weeks later, the blank lot is filled with a five story building and is already taking offers for condos.

Lately, Fort Lauderdale has seen even more construction than usual. Every few streets on the grid have the blacktop torn up to lay down fresh pipe, for what I assume is water and sewer for the huge amount of housing that has been springing up like toadstools after a rainstorm. Lit signs, barricades, and guys with flags route traffic to more productive routes… so much orange everywhere; in the form of traffic cones, striped standees with flashing yellow lights on top, and pseudo-fences wrapped around poles in a failed attempt to keep out interlopers. I discovered, quite by accident that the nearby Eckerd’s drugstore was widened by about 30%.

Something sort of neat about all of this construction… It seems that most times of day when I’m on my way home, the equipment is left out like giant Tonka toys left behind by a careless, gargantuan five-year-old. for all I know that’s what is putting the buildings together while I’m asleep or off at work. If that’s the case, maybe I should point the web cam out back.

I’m usually pretty adaptable to cosmetic changes, as long as I don’t miss out on services. That gas station was a great place to visit and get little Lego cars while my socks spun around with my towels. Now, I don’t have anyplace to go and get $2 toys… if I want to do Lego while I wash, I’ll have to bring them with me. Not going to happen, I’m already too loaded down… it’s different if you pick up a new trinket (I have approximately 12 Lego-cars at home now, as a memento of that now-vanished store. They live in my buckets of heroclix / mage knight props.) Interesting to me that Danny and I discovered that two years ago, today. Haven’t played in an age, but maybe the next time he and I get together we can have a fresh play. I wouldn’t mind playing MK with Dave, too, but it seems like those days are gone, with him having so much work and two kids.

Speaking of Danny, his school blocks livejournal. (I imagine Julian can show him how to bust through via an anonymous resurfer, if he has to visit.)

I can’t remember the last time I got really drunk. I’m not a heavy drinker, and I go weeks without an alcoholic beverage. I do like having a cold beer after walking home on a hot day, or doing any kind of thirsty work.

Got the urge to revisit the South Park character maker.

According to Newsday, live video from the Olympics will be viewable online. However, ‘the footage will be highly restricted to protect lucrative broadcast contracts, which are sold by territory – $793 million paid by NBC alone. Web sites must employ technology to block viewers from outside their home countries, so U.S. Web surfers won’t benefit from the BBC’s live coverage. They’ll have to settle for highlights posted after NBC broadcasts, which are already largely tape-delayed.’

6814 – ramble

Just ran a case from Davie, and am now too awake to sleep, but too sleepy to do anything productive. I’ll type here until I’m ready to flop back into bed.

Recent events, thoughts –

Apparently, I’m the designated health care surrogate for my brother, should it turn out that he’s unable to take care of himself due to mental illness, or whatever. Not sure how I feel about that. I don’t foresee it being a problem, really, but I’d have preferred to be asked first, not just notified in passing after the fact.

The thing about keeping a journal online is that I can’t safely post publicly about how I feel about *everything*. If it steps on someone else’s toes, or might be found by someone who shouldn’t see it, or if it’s just none of anyone’s business but my own, I’ll post things privately, my eyes only. Only on very rare of occasions do I post friend’s only stuff (at least these days). I’m pretty much an open book except about things that might hurt someone else’s privacy or my employment.

Things have happened in my family in recent times that try to chip away at my “gentle giant” sense of self. I come back to myself every now and then, and do a bit of a case study. I think I’m still a friendly, nice guy who is pretty approachable if you’re not afraid of giant hippie-looking types.

I have some fundamental flaws that probably will never be repaired. I’m a messy housekeeper. I procrastinate with a lot of things. I have a low tolerance for grossly incompetent people in any service industry. I hate to teach the same person the same thing more than twice. I think that most people are basically nasty, selfish children barely underneath a veneer of slightly more polite behavior and laws enforced by society.

Some good things about me. I do think that everyone is entitled to a little kindness. I feel that some people are able to grow past that selfish child aspect into a kind and giving person. (a lot of people are in the in-between stages.) I think that I set a good example for kids and grownups who are still looking to learn how to behave. I can love unconditionally. I’m more helpful than I am unhelpful. I don’t procrastinate on the important stuff. (Newt’s always well fed, and given lots of love, for example.) I have a job where I don’t have to eat my soul to feed my belly.

Neutral stuff : I’m a social creature, but can function well in a solitary lifestyle. I like to read. I’ve had people tell me that they’re envious of how grounded I am… that I’ve got things together, no matter what happens. Well, I vent regularly, and try not to lose hope. To screech, and flail and grit my teeth… that’s not my style. That’s not to say I’ve never been panicked… but I’ve usually found that it was a result of a false sense of urgency, or misunderstanding, plus panic rarely helps matters in cases where it might be created.

Magical Trevor is Stuck in my Head!

The Lyrics –

Everyone loves Magical Trevor
because the tricks that he does are ever so clever
look at him now, disappearing a cow

Where is the cow, hidden right now?

Taking a bow, it’s Magical Trevor,
Everybody’s seen that the trick is clever

Look at him there with his leathery, leathery whip
it’s made of magic
and with a little flip

yeah yeah yeah

the cow is back

yeah yeah yeah

the cow is back

back back

back from his magical journey-yeah

What did you see in the parallel dimension?

Saw beans, lots of beans, lots of beans, lots of beans,

Saw beans, lots of beans, lots of beans, lots of beans yeah, yeah.

A pop hit if I ever heard one.
