7135 – Saturday Morning

Stayed an extra 2 hours at work last night to get the budgets out on time.

ErN’s cable net is still out, so I handed it off to MoA, who was more than happy to pick up some extra bucks. I’m on call today, at east until he gets tech support.

Mel came by last night, and the poor girl is pretty dang unhappy with her germed, snotty, sore-throaty situation. I made her as comfy as I could.. burned her some VCDs of desperate housewives/growing up Gotti.

We traded ghost stories, watched tv, and I think that I helped her to be less miserable.

I got calls from bro, the mom, and Danny last night all within 10 minutes of each other. I love my family and friends, but I was starting to really dislike the phone.

Current moment of Lyric: (thanks, misspriss!)

I got rice cooking in the microwave
Got a three day beard I don’t plan to shave
And it’s a goofy thing but I just gotta say
Hey I’m doing alright

7133 – Is Emo Phillips really Emo?

Diario de KAJ de imperio

Yep. It’s strep. Bleah.. poor Mel’s going to be on antibiotics for a week. She’s going to be a sad little sicky-pants for a little while. [update – after a night of rest, she’s feeling a bit better, but still fairly icky-sicky. I may have to take call tonight anyway, but I hope Sunday will find the majority of the yuck out of her system.]

JH is about 5 years older than I thought! I seriously thought she was only as old as VS.

I like to be in the woods, because I can touch living things there that are bigger than me…. even if they are trees, and silent. It can be nice, not being the biggest or the oldest, or the most stable.

the mrs G team?
A Yellow panel van with a diving helmet?

Who are these people? I hope they fight for the side of good.

If I ever role play a supers game again, I’ll have to figure out a backstory involving mrs G and her team of sponge divers. Did she ever work with the A-Team?

Looks like Mel’s got strep or a really bad sinus infection. She’s going to the doc this morning to look into it. I don’t have any symptoms yet, though some of the women at work have also been pretty sick lately… RI, ADP, and LD in particular.

I don’t think Sammy did it, but he’s been sickly, too.

PURPLE HEALING VIBES FOR EVERYONE!

You know what, dear journal? I hereby claim February as “NO NEW DRAMA MONTH”. I don’t want anyone I care about to get sick, get into a serious argument, go to jail, have a natural disaster occur to them, have money problems, launch or receive any sort of ballistic, emotional, spiritual or hand to hand damage. Let’s see if we can get through 28 days without a lot of hubbub.

Also, if it’s not too much trouble… try to resolve some existing drama. Forgive someone, share some good love, spread cheer. Do something to make someone smile.

On an up note, the weather has been gorgeous lately. Morning at 50, midday at 65, clear skies.

Later this year, the Korean government will put wireless broadband robots into 200 post offices around the country. Instead giving the robots on-board cognitive capabilities, the researchers are outsourcing the sensing and processing work to central computers via a wireless link. They’ll come in “male” and “female” models: the male will serve as a guard and will be armed with a projectile net that it can deploy to immobilize troublemakers, and the female will help customers and display entertaining video clips to people waiting in line. The project, which is part of a larger “Ubiquitous Robot Companion” initiative, is being spearheaded by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), which also plans to put 100 domestic robots into houses in the next couple of years. More on the Monkey King

With pretty pictures

Regarding yesterday’s poll (that I took from silentyrs) Take it now, before looking at the answers :

First things first – The Fibs

7131 – Fabled Monkey King’s ‘tomb’ discovered

A “tomb” of the legendary Monkey King and his brother has been found on a mountain peak in Shunchang County, Fujian Province.

Examination of the “tomb” in a temple on the highest peak of Baoshan Mountain dates it to between the late Yuan (1271-1368) and early Ming (1368-1644) period.

The temple covers about 18 square metres and the tomb is 2.9 metres wide and 1.3 metres deep.

Two headstones in front of the “tomb” bear the carved titles of the Monkey King and his brother in regular script.

Wang Yimin, curator of the local museum explained that the Monkey King has two sisters and two brothers in an earlier story about a Tang monk’s journey to India in search of Buddhist Sutras.

But in the “Journey to the West,” written by Wu Cheng’en (1330-1400) later, Monkey King had integrated all the magic powers of his brothers and sisters into himself, reports the Fuzhou channel of xinhuanet.com.

7130 – And, back to the hump again.

Family Drama. I deal with the brother and the mother. Mel deals with her mother and grandmother. A lot of tension this past week or so.

I wonder how long *any* of them are going to last… A lot of poor health, either physical or mental. Not going to bother going into too many details in a public post, but we’ll work it out.

My link sponsor wrote to tell me that I’ll still be paid, but to remove the prior sponsored links for my site.. while I wait for the new ones, they just return to the main page. I wonder what changed?

Hmm… yesterday’s din-din was quite yummy. Why have I never put mushrooms on eggplant parm before? It’s pretty dang tasty.

I miss my birkenstocks. Time to get something open-toed.

Moment of lyric:

Maybe more than enough.
Oh darling… walk a while with me

7126 – Look out! The Chemicals are Reacting!

Spent the day yesterday with Mel… at the house from about noon to 8ish. Nice time watching discovery channel, eating ziti, snuggling, playing with Newt , and discussing science. We disagreed about the earth’s wobble being ultimately dangerous or not, but we’re more than happy to agree to disagree, since there’s nothing either of us can do to change how the world spins or tilts in any significant way.

Got nicely complimented… “Is there anything you don’t know some little piece of information about?” via Mel.

She knows a *lot* of things I don’t know about, and I’m the opposite side of that coin. We combine to have quite a mass of knowledge, with a fair overlap. I’d say that I’m more book smart, and she’s more real world experienced, though cases have come up where our intellectual positions were reversed.

Note to Danny – All of these are possible translations –

LONG LIVE JAMBI! :O

Obligatory Star Wars ref:

TOSHI STATION, Tatooine (Imperial Press) — Local wizard Ben Kenobi yesterday announced he had detected a “great disturbance” that could possibly affect the entire universe.

It was as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced,” Kenobi said. “I fear something terrible has happened.”

I’ve had three people (jokingly) accuse me of knocking down LJ. It wasn’t me!!

7121 – I want Spider-man as an assistant!

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County has hired an expert on “cyberbullying” to talk to students, teachers, parents and police about young people who harass their peers with mean-spirited Web sites, hounding text messages, invasive cell-phone photos and other high-tech tools.

Parry Aftab, executive director of wiredsafety.org, will conduct a “summit” on the issue Feb. 8 at the Westchester County Center, County Executive Andrew Spano announced Tuesday.

She will be assisted by Spider-Man under an arrangement between her organization and Marvel Enterprises Inc. “Kids will listen to him,” she said.

Supercar… Supercar…
With beauty and grace,
as swift as can be,
watch it flying through the air.
It travels in space,
or under the sea,
and it can journey anywhere.

Supercar… Supercar…
It travels on land,
or roams the skies,
through a heavens stormy rage,
It’s Mercury-manned,
and everyone cries,
“it’s the marvel of the age!”

Supercar… Supercar… Supercar!

swiped from resilience – list x number of statements about random people on your friends list, but you don’t say who the statements are about.

  1. I’ve had a crush on you off and on since we met on lj, ages ago.
  2. You don’t post nearly as often as I’d like, but I always enjoy your content, humor and intellect.
  3. Your digital images are some of the best photographic work I’ve seen online or off.
  4. Man, what is wrong with you? Lately, you are my token train wreck to watch on my list. I wonder if you’re faking it sometimes.
  5. I miss you. I keep you well past my “expiration date” in the hopes that you’ll return.
  6. You are all-around awesome. You impress just about every time I see you, and that’s no small feat.
  7. Get over the suicide. Dwelling on it so deeply for so long is just unhealthy. If you can’t do it on your own, find some help.
  8. You are extremely silly, artistic, intelligent and cute. Keep up the good work.
  9. You’re smart, but your one “fatal flaw” makes me want to rip off your arm and bash you with it, Beowulf-style. Fix that, please.
  10. I have high hopes for your immediate and distant future.
  11. Your Travelogues and entries in general are the meat and potatoes of what journaling is all about.
  12. If you were local, I’d probably never have met Mel and would likely be dating you now.
  13. You finally figured it out, and got away from what was dragging you down. Kudos.
  14. If I were killed tomorrow, you’d be the one I’d pick to take care of Newton. (I guess I’d pick you using a Ouija board or something.)
  15. I hope to spend more time with you, now that you’re in Florida. I’m glad your life has taken such a wonderful turn.

Yesterday I finally found solid ground, the weekend is looking clear, and bro hasn’t been in any trouble (that I know of). The chicken coop at work is getting less clucky, now that the big kahuna is at her destination, and the stressful prep has come to an end for the moment.

Downside, Mel’s Gramma is in the hospital, and had a minor heart attack. She’s under observation right now.. I hope she mends quickly.

Mel & I are definitely a go-go for some sort of day trip this Sunday… not sure where.. maybe Parrot Jungle? Don’t tell Mel, but I really am more interested in seeing the monkeys (especially Jake) than the pretty birds.

I made a point of putting in a request to get my birthday off this year.. it falls on a Wednesday, but I didn’t take any other personal days yet. I think that I’m going to take a bit of time off in mid-may.

A couple of people at work read my LJ… EN and JH, at least. It was odd, JH called me Scotto today, and it was a bit of a surprise. A pleasant one, certainly. I’m digging the new blood so far.. I think the younger crowd will soften some of the sharper edges the elders have. Plus, it takes a lot of the workload off of me. Now what we need is a receptionist, so that I’m no longer distracted by diving for the phones.
