6897 -Thursday. K-lunch today.

Random doodle of me plucking the eye stalk out of some alien’s head. (Old Dream, about a year ago)

Speaking of Archives –

1 year ago – monkey-pops/injustice, free movies, more on Ohio case, Nosy coworkers, lovely chat

2 years ago – Peace Corps dream, Conan O’Brien smells bad, palm doodles,

3 years ago – fisher King, Flag treatment, cyborg roaches, bring back art nouveau.

I’ve got the urge to do some silly video-editing/movie making. Maybe next walkabout, I’ll get some good footage to fool with.

Another view of the soul – Egyptian

The ancient Egyptians named at least four components of the soul: the ka was the vital life force, and dwelt within the corpse after death; the ba was the soul proper, and the part that actually went on to the underworld; the khu represented spiritual intelligence, and the ren was one’s name. Two other concepts may have been related to the soul: the sekhem, an embodiment of one’s power, and the khaibit, one’s shadow. It’s definitely the ka that would animate an undead mummy, but khaibit seems like a prime candidate for manipulation by evil necromancy.

6882 – Surrender Now, or prepare to fight!

Good thoughts this morning. High hopes for the future.Site Meter

My shelves are crowded. Is there ever enough room for books? Do they always breed, and spread out to fill any shelving to contain them?

Sin City preview. Interesting. They got a *lot* of names.

Goodbye Romania – By visiting this gallery, you will destroy it. Each visit will remove one pixel from these photographs.

Dang… spambots again and again. They still haven’t worked out that I screen anony-comments. I always remove them right away, and mark ’em as spam.

It seems LJ isn’t the only victim… Bloggers Declare War on Comment Spam, but Can They Win?

As long as I can filter-preview, I figure I’m good.. it’s a minor issue.

Why is this stuck in my head?

Prepare for trouble!
Make it double!
To protect the world from devastation!
To unite all peoples within our nation!
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie! James!
Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!
Surrender now, or prepare to fight!
Meowth! That’s right!

Get it out!!

Play Dark Tower online!

The sounds are a real kick back to the old days. To be honest, I don’t think we ever quite played it right back then. We used to associate the “tomb” sound with flatus.

Doo The Dew: The Great Mountain Dew Pitch Black Green Poo ExperimentMountain Dew Pitch Black contains Blue Dye #1. PoopReport’s resident poop-color expert says that many kinds of blue dye (his experience was with Blue Dye #5 in Kool-Aid Purplesaurus Rex) “combine with bile, and form a brilliant green.”

Hm. Dark purple-black soda pop makes your poo bright green. Innnnteresting.

6811 – Balloons?

Wow… Friday already. this week was nuts. I’m on call much of the weekend, but I managed to hand a good chunk of Sunday off, though 4-7 I have to be on top of things. No major walkabout, it seems. I think I’ll do the Wolfsonian, the week after.

It’s been over a year since the last episode of Skeletor and Gang was made. I’ve always been partial to #14… That’s a pretty good approximation of South Florida nightlife.

I want to be with Mi Hala, holding hands, and sharing her space right now. Best, closest thing is to just join energy across boundless space and time… all hippy-like.

Bro’s case yesterday was just a calendar call. he’s on one hour notice for a hearing that should take place sometime next week. Apparently Andy was there, smelling of beer and looking rough, bro was clean and in a tie.

We’ll see what that week brings. He hasn’t been terribly communicative lately.

Looking at my hit logs, I found a few things.

threads swiping my bandwidth –

http://forums.anandtech.com – newt (talking about pink toes)

http://www.penny-arcade.com – palm pic of a pirate (talking about doom3)

best search phrase so far? – “the dwarf skill massacre of 1908”

top keywords, as always –

melons – 31% of my hits for August. (30% of July)
wench – 26% (12% of July)

6807 – riding the bus, and etc.

Well, I changed the past again, but I had the paradox inhibitor on, so I have no idea what from, and really, what to.

Ah well.

Palm update from yesterday – 8/3/04 – bus ride to work

7:20 am – The route 1 bus’s scrolly-sign time settings are off, making it seem 2 hours later than it actually is.

Particularly bumpy ride… time to repave SE 3rd ave. It’s cool outside – the rains have suppressed the heat nicely.

12:24 pm – Morning meeting went well, met the new fund raiser… she seems nice enough, sort of reminds me of Betsy Sylvester, the girl up the street from my Boynton days.

Denny’s for lunch… veggie burger is rather expensive. i should keep some provisions in the freezer for the future.

Bro goes to court on Thursday? I wonder how he’ll do? I imagine he’ll be released, but you never know.

4:35 pm – There are a lot of well-dressed, damaged people on the bus, though not so many vagrant-types. Both mentally and / or physically broken folk. It reminds me of rt60, that goes to the methadone clinic… the price of riding the bus serving the hospital, jail, and courthouse. Not nearly so tricky a crowd on the 3:30 run.

end palm update

More shots of the “mystery creature” spotted around Maryland and North Carolina. It seems to be able to project the “blur-field” that Bigfoot-type beasties use to hide with.

The old opening to the I Dream of Jeannie TV show with the brushes on the drums and trumpets is really spiffy, though the more familiar theme is simpler to stick in my skull.

I first heard the euphemism “honking out a dirt snake” yesterday. Noted, but it’s unlikely that I’ll ever use it outside of writing dialog for a character here or there.

The David Rumsey Historical Map Collection has over 10,000 maps online. The collection focuses on rare 18th and 19th century North and South America maps and other cartographic materials.

Labor day

I’m looking forward to spending some quality time today… so far, so good. It’s going to get better, too, I’m sure.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on TV last night.. I haven’t seen it in ages, and forgot how fun it was, though I think Benny Hill was underused.

Sleepy Morning.

Mildly sore throat today, fell asleep without the CPAP on, and as a snoring result, my uvula is a bit swollen. Lovely sleepy time this morn.

I hope that the Mother got to talk with the Brother. I’ll know by this evening.

Happy 227th birthday, USA! Happy Saint Elizabeth of Portugal Day!

I heartily recommend reading the Declaration of Independence. It’s brief, and has a good vibe to it.

A moment is eternal… for as long as it lasts.

Ahhh… back from getting groceries. Hooray for a bike with a cargo space! I got a good workout, because I wanted to get ice cream home before it’d melt. A grand experiment. Looks good!

Cherry chocolate chip!

I have too many friends that take the wrong things seriously. Like looking for gritty realism in a BEM movie. They should be appreciating the real story in signs, I think, and not yelping about plot holes… I liked the flick, but a few plot inconsistencies, and many of the geeks I know are treating it like it’s coated in Ebola monkey feces. Pooties on them! They don’t get that it’s a framing technique and that the real story is what’s important.

Ah well.

Moment of Zen –

In my young days I never
Tasted sorrow. I wanted
To become a famous poet.
I wanted to get ahead.
So I pretended to be sad.
Now I am old and have known
The depths of every sorrow,
And I am content to loaf
And enjoy the clear autumn.
– Hsin Ch’i Chi
(Translated by Kenneth Rexroth)

Hmmm – “Most L.A. theater productions get a standing ovation. Are we less discerning, more easygoing or just polite?” Most theatre I’ve gone to does this too…I was wondering if it was a politeness thing, too. I personally like to show appreciation to performers, and to respond to them.

Nice night of sleepies.

Newt is smarter than a monkey… he knows that the moon is in the sky, not it’s reflection in a body of water. But he still prefers to drink from the basin where I wash my face and brush my teeth to the water-bowl by his food.

Payday! How wonderful to have my coffers refilled!

a long overdue moment of Zen:

In quiescence I hear the
Cinnamon blossoms fall.
When night comes,
The Spring mountains are silent.
Suddenly the moon appears
From behind the clouds
And startles the young birds;
By the mountain stream they chirp and chirp.

– Wang Wei (701-761)

and your moment of poop.

My political compass – (wow.. a few years ago, the eye for an eye question I’d have strongly agreed to, now I disagree strongly.)

Economic Left/Right: -2.62
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -3.18

Well, I fall into the same quadrant as Ghandi, but I’m not as economically communist (state-planned economy isn’t my thing), so I guess that’s not bad. some similar minded authors.

Danny’ll be along in a bit for breakfast, so it’s off to the showers, dear journal.
