9983 – Thursday

Growing my beard out again…. time for the "hunt for red october" look to keep my face protected from the elements that are coming. Oddly, Kathleen took today to do a mr potato head of my current beardo icon… serendipity?

Adam came over to visit last night. and we played a bit of dokopon before he was off to his church group meeting. No sign of andrew… he was going to come over for dinner, but double booked.

BHK and I continued playing a bit after Adam left and got some Papa John’s pizza, because it was too windy, cold and rainy to go out to the grocery store or the chinese place.

Today was mostly spent looking for work, watching tv, and shooting skags in borderlands. I did take a brief launch outside with neighbor Chris to swap his car for a loaner while the window got fixed…. BHK made some amazing ravioli and pink sauce for supper… full after one bowl, with plenty for tomorrow’s lunch and then some.

We finished watching Journeyman – it left on a high note, and I supect that it was cancelled just in time… our dvr is slowly draining of saved shows from 2007.

Mostly just working today – looking for a paying gig, reformatting Chris’s computer, a last ditch effort to reconstruct it. BHK is working on her projects upstairs, too. I have the added benefit of listening to the Craig Ferguson Audiobook – his voice is strangely calm, and I get a vibe of Shrek doing the reading, rather than that puppet guy on the tube.

Tonight, we’re doing quiche and asaragus – perfect for tonight’s meal.

Got our first check form our renters in florida deposited… I guess it’s official, now –we have renters. Just in time, too. It was getting pretty tight there for a moment.

I still can’t get over how it’s dark by 5:30 at night here…. Florida isn’t that far, latitude wise, is it? I suppose it is, given the change in weather, as well as the sunlight.

9975 – weekend update

William, Bryce, Dominic, Dalton, (and Donnie , but he was outside, and didn’t come in) came over for a surprise visit and afternoon of Wii gaming. It seems that Bryce and William’s own Wii was broken, and so they figured they’d swing by our place for some goofing around and general fun.

Bryce was the rare talent today – creamed us at Wii bowling and barely lost mario party 8…. not to mention being a surprise champ at Hey, That’s my fish, and Labyrinth. 

It was a pleasant, though chaotic visit… the kids were all very well mannered. They all just piled out of the house to go home to dinner.
 
(Damien wasn’t here tonight, but he did check out haunted.scottobear.com for the Callis Haunted Adventure earlier this week.

In other gaming news, I won mario party 8 and blokus at the Nailles on Friday night — the trophy is ours once more!

Got up at 6:30 this morning and went for an hour walk with Chris before heading off to some of the last gasp yard sales of the summer.

Yard Saling stuff – not showm, more legos, bake sale goodies consumed.

I find the toys, BHK the antiques. We both find the hot air balloon / pregnant women / overpopulation picture cool, then creepy. It is already hanging in next to the office.

After the sale, we headed home, while Chris and Mandy went on to Annapolis, BHK and I stopped off at the local historical society and did a treasure hunt with a 4-year-old boy named Annikin. (I guess the parents are star wars fans… was that a “real name” before the movies?

In-laws took us to dinner at outbakc – made use of gift certificats Adam and Anna gave ’em on the 4th of July – I had a lovely baked potato, salad, and shrimp.

Returned home to play some monopoly dice with Chris and Mandy, but the boys were wiped out – Mandy and BHK played Balloon Cup, instead.

BHK got me into this, and it may be jumping the shark now, but I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons
10. Ripley’s Belive it or not
– starring Superman or Curly, either are ok by me.
11. M*A*S*H
Have to steal this from Kath – I really liked the mix of drama and humor a lot.
12. The Prisoner –
thanks to Ray and Kath for this one – I actually own it and secret agent on dvd already.
13. sesame street / electric company / Mr. Rogers neighborhood –
brilliant songs and nostalgia – they cannot be split apart
14. Black Sheep Squadron / Tales of the gold monkey
– my love of corsairs / seaplanes started here.

Whew – super hot out today – in the triple digits… and I’m designed for cooler weather. Inside the house, we have the a/c set for 69F and the thermometer is reporting about 10 degrees warmer in here. Still, not as bad as outside.

Larry’s work on the closet expansion is done – double the accessibility, and it looks nicer, too. All that remains is painting around the edge, and we’re finished. Next trick will be adding another walled off area at the foot of the bed for more storage space. BHK and I are enjoying sleep in our own bed again, and the kitties are very pleased to be allowed back in the bedroom.

We went to Selby’s for supper – saw the ATW man changed again – now he’s got his head stuck through a billboard showing him lazing on a beach at sunset, playing guitar to some bikini babes.  Additionally, Chris and Mandy spotted some local wildlife (turtles and spider) and a nice barn – I autopano’ed the bar, to add detail – a pretty spiffy stucture.

Tonight is my sleep study – hooked up to my gear, and I’m hitting the sack in about a half hour. First night not in the same bed with BHK since we’ve been married – I plan on tucking in with her when I get out at 6:30 am tomorrow.

BHK and Mandy out today – they headed to Annapolis and went shopping at Sephora (got makeovers) , Lush (nice smelly soaps), some sammiches at selby, coffee at fab brew.

I stayed home, in fear for my testosterone… Instead, I opted to stretch out my back, I put in 2.5 miles around the neighborhood… it was cloudy, so weather was cooler. After the first half-mile, I was able to stand up straight, and the walk became rather comfortable… I visited the candy store and picked up BHK a praline and some gummy soda-bottles to share along with my primary goal of a bottle of water. At the post office, paperback swap sent me (c/o BHK)  The Vesuvius Club (not the graphic edition, just the novel) and Song of Kali – I look forward to reading them both.

Later that afternoon, I gabbed, watched some Bones and played some phase 10 with Chris – The girls brought us home some selby subs – steak and cheese for Chris, uber-veggie for me!

Chris and I are planning to hit the gym sometime soon – it’ll be nice to do some weight training / back strengthening with another guy who knows what I’m dealing with.

He had to do the news starting at 4am tomorrow, so Chris hit the sack at about about 7:30 – BHK and I headed back home (across the street).

Laid back and we played a lot of DS (BHK) and PSP (me) while watching the finale of Burn Notice – we were both rather underwhelmed about the summer closer. Hopefully Psych will take up the slack.

Back is complaining now about the earlier walkies. I forgot to mention that I went with the old gps – made some waypoints – kitten safari, bus stops, etc.

Upon looking at my spinning Scotto heroclix icon… I think I have to update and make a new one for myself, BHK, Newton and Pye.

Got my shots and refilled meds today – that and running errands absorbed most of the available daylight. Back is still tricking up, but I do better after stretching and a little bit of a walk.  Still pretty tough for me to pick up anything moderately heavy, and standing or sitting for a long period is difficult.

During my last walk, I picked up a couple of UNO decks to put in local geocache sites. I’m not very fond of the drive-by/ “cache and dash” mindset, but going to one a day is a nice way to see newplaces and old ones in a new light.

BHK made plans with Mandy to hit the thrift store tomorrow – BHK has a lot of luck finding loot – I expect to get a good shirt or two at least!
