4. What is your favorite TV show? Currently on the air – Better Off Ted, Recently on the Air – Middleman, off the air for a long time, there are too many to count.
5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? Someplace where BHK and I could have maximum enjoyment of the world and each other. So… just about anywhere, as long as she’s near! 
6. What did you have for breakfast? Sesame seed bagel with cream cheese and fake bacon.
7. What is your favorite cuisine? I really like Mexican, but I wouldn’t contest Indian or Chinese.
8. What foods do you dislike? Raw tomato, anything prepared poorly.
9. Favorite Place to Eat? Joss is great for sushi, Selby for pizza/subs, but home is where the best food can be found. 🙂
10. Favorite dressing? vinaigrette
11.What kind of vehicle do you drive? 2006 Honda Element – Blue / Silver
12. What are your favorite clothes? comfy stuff – changes with the weather, but I am fond of my fedora in summer and mad bomber hat in winter.
13. Where would you visit if you had the chance? Bremen, Egypt, Greece, Austin TX, Brockton MA
14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full? That cup contains 50% water, 50% air. Which half?
15. Where would you want to retire? I like it here in Maryland. the DelMarVa area has a lot of potential.

18. What is your favorite sport to watch? I’m not a bit sports viewer – Jousting is pretty keen though.

27. What is your best childhood memory? walking on the beach and making a ring out of tin foil – feeling the salt scrape my fingers. The ring was later used to imprison my army men.
28. Are you a cat or dog person? I’m allergic to both, but I love the cats we have. I’d enjoy a dog too, if the situation were right.

Chilly this morning!

Created an account at stickam.com, a video/audio broadcasting site like mogulus , but it seems to have a few more controls. I might make it my default streaming site for when I have the laptop with me. Feel free to friend me there – it looks like a lot of fun so far.

Google image search now includes a color filter ? pick the drop down, ad you can narrow it to red, or whatever color monkey you’re searching for. also breaks it down into faces, line art and news pics, which is neato. This makes seeking out images for the coloring book community something easy.

Got home from work, and had more homework to do before bed – I think I’m pretty prepared for tomorrow’s meeting, though.

Not much to say, save that I’m sleepy, and tonight’s Big Bang Theory was pretty weak. They’re on a train and Summer whoozit from Terminator / Firefly is there. Bleh. Best thing about the episode was the end title card.

Think of 15 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. Here is my list, narrowed to 15. (Scotto isn’t tagging anyone, but is happy to see any other entries)

Let’s see… this could be fairly tricky – I’m not sure of music that changed me forever… I’ve never really been one of those folks to play the same album over and over again… a few that come to mind –

Stuff that was significant to me, and I still dig –

1. Beach boys – I went through a major Beach Boys phase as a kid – Pet Sounds was something that got a lot of play both in my home and on my walkman. The album still cheers me up quite a lot.

2. Beatles – Yellow Submarine / Octopus’s Garden (not really an album, but the first music I had as a kid.. that I remember. It wasn’t even the Beatles, it was the Sesame Street Version) If I had to pick an actual Beatles  album, I really liked Rubber Soul.

3. Talking Heads – Little Creatures Great album – started me on that Band, and despite the "art student snob" aspect, I really like ’em.
 
4. Tubes – Outside Inside Got this form a yard sale – I was very pleasantly surprised. (Wild Women of Wongo is what got me to drop 25¢ for it. ) I figure I’ve gotten well worth my penny a play just for that track.
 
5. ELO – Time – first Album bought with my own money, played a *lot*

6. Steve Martin – A Wild And Crazy Guy Not really a music album, though it had banjo and The KingTut single.

7. B-52s – Whammy Discovered them late – mostly via gaming with Ray & Kat. (Specifically for Trism)

8. Zombies – Odessey and Oracle This one keeps coming back, and I love it every time. (Most recently for "This will be our year")

9. XTC – Oranges and Lemons  So Sue me… I like Mayor of Simpleton.

10. They Might Be Giants – Lincoln I first heard them on Dr. Demento when I was in High School – I’ve been hooked since. Hard to believe it’s been 20 years+

11. Genesis – Selling England by the Pound Very different stuff than the Phil Collins-centric bits in later years. It may be my all-time fave Genesis Album.

12. Chuck Mangione – Chase the Clouds Away – One of the five 8-track tapes I had for my first car, the blue bomber. played repeatedly, because we only had 5 albums, and eventually the AC/DC and Beach Boys tapes wore out.

13. Rusted root – When I Woke – first really fun time with the hippies – post concert. I like them quite a lot.

14. Poi Dog Pondering – Poi Dog Pondering – "and I said YEAH!" – discovered by accident. Thanks, tape-traders in college!

15. Queen – Flash Gordon Soundtrack – FLASH ! AHAHHHHH! HE’LL SAVE EVERY ONE OF US!

BHK gave me a lift in to work this morning – let me sleep in an extra hour or so. I repay her by going over her accent on the way in – we were talking about someone’s "pen collection", and With BHK, Pin & Pen sound alike – and I had no context cues to work with. so I innocently asked if it was the writing implement or the sharp thing that pierces fabric.

That devolved into a Rosetta-stone style communication back and forth – She doesn’t pronounce the difference between pin or pen. Long story short, we just were silly and giggly on the ride in – perhaps you had to be there, dear journal.

[update – noonish]

Found out this afternoon that my brother’s girlfriend Shannon has had a relapse and has vanished with her baby (Bro’s daughter). Bro is still in prison for the next few months (out in May) – My Mom is understandably upset – had bonded some with the child and is looking into legal recourse. I really don’t think that they’ve even established paternity yet, so I doubt she has much to work with.

I am a bit cold about the whole thing – saw this coming (heck, I dealt with Derek’s bouts back and forth with rehab, and know how that whole deal works), but there is not a lot I can do for any of them.

She’s made a good decision not to pursue custody or guardianship or anything like that and I feel she made a good, if very difficult choice.

Tomorrow, BHK and I are attending the United Way Mardi Gras – we got comp tickets from the Maerten’s Gang!

We’re taking a limo, with the whole crew, and it’ll be like BHK and I are going to prom. I’m looking forward to it all!

Midweek, already? Not much happened tonight, save for burgers on the grill with the in-laws – hung out, and tv caused bhk to fall asleep – I’ll be trotting her off to bedski shortly.


The monetary density of things…or what substances are worth their weight in gold, including $50 bills, LSD, and antimatter.

People have been saying that the new industrial grade swimsuits like the LZR Racer are worth their weight in gold. As you can see, this is clearly inaccurate. But such a suit is worth its weight in marijuana or industrial diamonds.

Sick right after lunch today – stomach cramps, vomiting and a bit of shakes afterward. I wish the bathroom at work was less centrally located.. I felt like I was broadcasting my problems to the whole office. Ah well… no helping that.

Watched season opener for Eureka last night and the start of Death at a Funeral. (spoilers on page – don’t read, unless you care to know.) Both were pretty standard fare for the genre, but entertaining nonetheless. Product placement in Eureka – interesting… I was surprised that we watched it last night -was rather expecting it to be a "see the whole season prerecorded after it’s ended" sort of thing. As for the movie, it’s always nice to see Peter Dinklage.

BHK made salad and queso for me, and had some left over chik-fil-a strips in hers… it smelled wonderful, and mine was delicious.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BHK!!

Allison’s B’day! I buttered her nose while she was distracted by playing audiosurf. (Got it for $5 this last weekend.) I was a little disappointed that my mp3 of Christopher Walken reciting Poe’s “The Raven” was so linear.

As a gift / party-favor to all for BHK’s day – A GAZILLION Free to print and play games.

If you’re not into free games, (or even if you are, dear journal) here’s a stop-motion zombie movie called Chainsaw Maid. Best zombie film this year. (from the same people who did Bloody Date )

No Lebanese Taverna Tonight – Falafel time must wait – instead we hit Gallo’s Deli – food is still pretty good. Not as superior as Selby, but only a block or two from the house. BHK opened the remainder for her loot tonight.

I got her an assortment of little trinket-treats – My faves were earring-studs in the style of mexican sugar skulls and a bottlecap pin with a pirate inside saying ARG in letter beads…. but I’m partial to things skully. I need to take a picture of BHK’s loot pile – other items were a lovey charm, a ouija board pin, and a horde of coupons to do / get things, from getting me in a good mood to a movie night with no snarky comments. (2 nights, if neither are Jane Austen-related).

BHK is going to tease me mercilessly – She’d better watch it, or she’ll get She-Ra’ed.) The WUSA9 team all have blogs it seems, and the bulk of them are very entertaining!


Called Dr. Wolfe – cracked my back tooth, the one with the composite filling. I’m taking antibiotics starting tonight, and I’ll be seeing him in a week for a fix-up. Got a postcard from the bro. He sounds better when he’s sobered up. I’ll be writing him sometime between tomorrow night and this weekend. It breaks my heart every time I think of him… I thought I was mostly over it, but I’m really still fairly tender about it at times. If luck enters the picture, maybe he’ll get some good, solid treatment, but I won’t get my hopes up.

His arraignment was supposed to have been on Monday – I wonder how long before public records will give me follow-up info? He’s got a calendar call on 9/2/08 – I guess I’ll know more then.

A University of Melbourne team has broken new ground, extracting genes from the extinct tasmanian tiger and bringing them back to life in another living creature.


The team put the thylacine DNA into a mouse embryo in what the university’s Dr Andrew Pask says is the first time DNA from an extinct species has been used “to induce a functional response in another living organism.”


The thylacine DNA reproduced in the mouse’s body and showed biological function, reviving hopes that the tiger may one day be successfully cloned.
