Cyclops is wondering why I am not sleeping, even though late night meower Pyewacket is dozing happily on his mama. I have no answer that I wish to share with him.

I just noticed that his wristbands don’t match.

Swampwalk quarantine social distance day 216

Left later than usual, brought the inlaws out to the swamp for the first time. They had some unique viewpoints on much of the flora and fauna while we perambulated for about a mile.

Critter count -primary beastie was a whistle pig (aka groundhog) that ran past us well within two feet. A fat little sucker, with a huge mouthful of leaves, we assume to line the burrow for winter. Super cute, and surprise to see so up close and personal.

Other stuff include a while gang of starlings, many dragonflies and cabbage moths, several gulls, one osprey. No sign of the neighborhood kitties, but the Belgian Shepherd made a point of being heard. I keep forgetting her name… Kita, maybe?

A lot of puffball fungus, but only a few toadstools. No new progress on the sign framework from the other day.

Houses are all decked for Halloween, and the neighborhood is of a split mind regarding trick or treating. My thoughts are hell no… but some people prefer risk of death and a couple of free Hershey bars over common sense in a pandemic.

Something fun in the news for a change, a mothman sighting! Glad he is flying in and out of cleared airspace.

from @nationalparkservice Everyday I’m rustlin’ ⁣

Rustle, rustlin’ rustling!’ Marvel at the beauty of the mountains and forests of Shenandoah National Park. The park, over 100 miles long and spanning a wide elevation range, offers beautiful scenery year-round. During the fall, hustle over to experience the changing leaves. Fall color conditions can vary dramatically from area to area, and weather affects the color from day to day and even hour to hour. Shenandoah has many trails and overlooks where you can settle down and find a peaceful moment, looking up at the streaming sunlight and the fluttering autumn leaves. ⁣
