These tribes of men were never seen,
except for their footprints and shadows,
except for their snow huts and weapons.
Seeing that there were no invisible women,
these imperceptible men courted humans.
Invisible men were said to be among the most handsome,
but women could not be sure who they married
until the unseen spouses died
and then their faces became apparent.
One human woman was so curious,
she often stared into her invisible husband’s shadow
trying to guess the shape of his chin.
When she held his body against hers at night,
she memorized his outline. She tried to fill
everything else in the next day when he was out hunting.
She imagined the shapes of his hot breath in cold air
were keys to the details of his chest.
She noticed the nuances of skin color among the villagers
and tried to approximate his. When they kissed,
she paid tribute to his invisible nose’s width.
One day when she could stand it no longer
she stabbed a knife into the space
where her husband was sleeping.
His feet appeared first, then his legs,
his torso, his arms, and finally his face
which was more angelic than any wife
could have imagined. Outside the hut
bows were seen moving through the air
as the other invisible men craved revenge.
Because of their code of honor, invisible men
could not aim arrows at those who could not see them.
So instead they wailed along with the wife,
voices even more invisible than usual,
sobbing their disembodied grief.
The Invisible Men from The Woman With Two Vaginas by Denise Duhamel
I may not be able to get my B-day off of work. I’ve not worked on my birthday in over 10 years. My own personal holiday, call me vain, if you want. I’ve not been home sick form work in over a year and a half.
They say they can’t afford to have me off, with the skeleton crew… I’m going to ask nicely if I can telecommute, and if that doesn’t work… well. They might have to get someone else.
Sakes… Last night was a another wonder,I could listen to Ornj’s voice forever… we stayed up, talking late into the night…she showed me a journal of hers from a year ago, and I ravenously consumed it. Her life is a beautiful one, and I’m delighted to be allowed to spend time with her in it. It’s amazing what you learn from reading another person’s journal… 🙂
MMmmMM . I just want to hug ‘er, and kiss ‘er and luv ‘er… (I don’t imagine I’ll name her George, though.)
I logged in a moment ago, and it said “User Scotto has no friends defined”
Boy, that’d suck socks through the rinse cycle, if I had to track down and reconnect to all the sweet folks I love reading!
I hit reload, and got the ‘Brad’s buying 2 more servers’ message…
then reload again, and everything was back to normal.
It was nearly brown trousers time there. (hmm… that’s a vulgar enough term to validate the troll)
Dreamed I was on a game show with Ornj, and we were being asked all sorts of things about each other… she was doing much better than I was… somehow, she knew my brother’s birthday, and my grandmother’s maiden name…
I just uttered the longest, freakiest, loudest *Belch* in the history of Scottodom.
It sounded like 100 tin cans rolling down a hill covered with jagged spikes. I would’ve made Dudly Denkins proclaim me master. My stereo is incapable of reproducing the fine bass reverberations that surely caused Newton to think I was roaring on the level that he purrs. I feel that it registered on the Richter scale at about a 3 or so (whatever shakes windows, but doesn’t throw glassware about) Teach me to drink a whole 2-liter of soda after going a week without. I was doing so well, too.
There. I admitted it. I wish I could’ve taped it for my future grandkids…
Speaking of future grandkids…(nice segue, eh?)
I sent out 13 of my VAGG Letters today. (and one extra special envelope to a combination of red & yellow who shall remain nameless.)
I hope you guys don’t mind that I’m not sending food items out… but the valentines are pretty sweet… some are autographed by newton, too!
You’ll have to wait to see what I’m putting in there.. I know I like ’em. 🙂
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
