tonight’s supper tape… I didn’t get much reading done.

“I am mighty! I have a glow you cannot see. I have a heart as big as the moon, as warm as bathwater. We’re superheroes, man! We don’t have time to be charming! The boots of evil were made for walking. We’re watching the big picture, friend. We know the score. We are a public service, not glamour boys! Not captains of industry! Not makers of things! Keep your vulgar moneys. We are a justice sandwich, no toppings necessary! Living rooms of America, do you catch my drift? Do you…dig?”

the tick, red dwarf, batman (adam west), and the twisted tales of Felix the cat.

Did I mention that I love having unmarked tapes lying around? It’s like the Scotto Channel. All stuff I liked enough to record, and promptly forgot about.

This evening’s Fare was (with tasty ramen & sweet peas), with a side of mandrin orange arizona tea –

Batman/Green Hornet Team up.

red dwarf – (Back to Reality: The crew of Red Dwarf discover an abandoned space ship on an ocean bed but suddenly the salvage operation doesn’t sound quite so sexy when they realise all of the occupants of the vessel committed suicide. Attack by a gigantic sea monster makes escape the favorite option. )

twisted tales of felix – star trek spoof, clean the planet… amazing art! (reminds me of blackie. 🙂 )

Tick vs the Aztecs. (the first appearace of Speak!)

A fine evening’s entertainment. mighty fine. I’m sort of happy I’ve been without cable for so long! I discovered I have 735 npcs in my database… more than I’ll ever, ever play. I alphabetized them, numbered them, and will make a nice searchable DB of them over time, just so the gamer community at large can enjoy… my net-book contribution.

I wonder how many folks will play my pcs? I know that miniMAX was picked up by a pbem, as was nexus and green lantern ’67 (greenpeace). The vast majority of the NPC’s are adaptations of comics chars… I think I have 4 or 5 versions of the fantastic four, for example. different capabilities, point levels, or systems. Mostly Champions and GURPS.

speaking of multi-genre gaming…D&D clue? Bilbo, in the orc cavern, with the vorpal blade… I sort of like it.

By the way… welcome back, ! One of my fave LJers back and writing. I’m very happy to see you.

I’m turning in. I’m going to read a bit, and dream of my sweetheart in her purple jammies.

Good Night… follow the trundling Scotto-pod to his preferred habitat… the nightchamber. Pleasant dreams to all you meat people, plasma folk, and fellow pods.

Slept in..

Derek had a job interview come up, so we didn’t get together today… instead, after seeing my sweetie off for the day (the dear has the mixed blessing of going to a 4 year old ‘s birthday party after a night of drunken debauchery with me…she loves the tot to pieces, but the time schedule could be better.) I dove back into bead, and reabsorbed the missing few hours of sleep I bypassed last night/this morning. Spent a good part of the time there not sleeping, but just resting… stroking newt, and trying to figure out what I want to do for my latest writing project. My brain’s been teetering back to days of when I was playing champions lately… so I think it’ll lean to something like ‘unbreakable’.. extraordinary person in an unusual situation.

I *still* have to mail out goodies to folks. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, in that respect. It’s been weeks, now… I will send the stuff out.. my window of opportunity is a small one each week to get to the post office while they’re open… I have Saturday and that’s it. I think what I’ll have to do is find some day to get up early and go to the PO before work, as I can’t seem to get things shipped out on the weekend effectively. Worst comes to worst, it’ll get sent out Saturday, with my horrible tardiness.

I think I’ll keep putting up my LJ cut posts of old characters, just for personal storage… I never really had them all in one place before.

F/X Porn by David Foster Wallace is a quick but good read on how special effects blockbusters like T2 and Independence Day are like porno films:

“Just like hard-core cheapies, movies like ‘Terminator 2’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ aren’t really ‘movies’ in the standard sense at all. What they really are is half a dozen or so isolated, spectacular scenes — scenes comprising maybe twenty or thirty minutes of riveting, sensuous payoff — strung together via another sixty to ninety minutes of flat, dead, and often hilariously insipid narrative.”

chunker.

Well, if I can’t sleep, I can at least get my code spit out.

#include [stdio.h]

#define WORKSPACE “./Workspace/”
#define LINE_LENGTH 160

int chunk_size = 43;

main()
{
int i = 0, wrote = 0;
FILE *fp;
char filename[LINE_LENGTH], insuck[LINE_LENGTH];

sprintf(filename, “%s%d”, WORKSPACE, i++);
if ((fp = fopen(filename, “w”)) == NULL) exit(1);

while (fgets(insuck, LINE_LENGTH, stdin) != NULL) {
fprintf(fp, “%s”, insuck); wrote++;
if (wrote >= chunk_size) {
fclose(fp);
sprintf(filename, “%s%d”, WORKSPACE, i++);
if ((fp = fopen(filename, “w”)) == NULL) exit(1);
wrote = 0;
}
}

fclose(fp);

exit(0);
}

Got off my butt, and will be having cable installed next Saturday sometime between 11am and 2 pm. Pricey… 19.95 a month until December, then it jumps to $41.50 (at which time I’ll either renegotiate, succumb to the new pricing, go with another company, or get a direct TV setup. for now, $20 is ok. If I kill it before December, they charge a $20 kill fee.

my plans for today.

Spend time with sweetheart, and give her lots of love.

Spend time with Newton, and give him lots of love.

Buy some pants (tore a pair yesterday, they need replacing)

get an area rug/Persian at Walmart

shop for a sofa/bookshelves/coffee table at the following –

Faith farm, salvation army , wal-mart, consignment. Mission: find a nice one, and have it delivered. (I can honestly say it took my admiring my sweetheart’s abode to spur me on to furnish mine. )

figure out how I want the living room to be arranged.

I figure that if I don’t see my sweetie by about 1pm, I’ll launch and get on the chores, and save the fun lovey stuff for later.

Note to self, do review of planet of the apes later.

nutshell – it wasn’t bad. better than three of the sequels from in the original series. compared to the original, it had very little heart. entertaining, though.

looks like lj is having some image issues… none of the emotion icons, or lj user /etc seem to be making themselves visible.

Evil News returns.

Floss Floss Floss Floss
=================================
Nearly 300-strong, they stood ready in the midday heat, determined to set a world’s record and become a part of history. Mounted on a makeshift platform, Chris Boncimino eyed his unwavering line of volunteers as a continuous spool of filament was unraveled by the surgically-gloved hands of orthodontist John Napolitano and two dental assistants. Resplendent in white Glide dental floss T-shirts and steely-eyed under equally white Crest toothpaste sun visors, the impatient would-be record holders began their chant: “Floss, floss, floss.”

“It’s going to take too long, and it’s stupid,”
