The stunning display of insurrection was the first time the US Capitol had been overrun since the British attacked and burned the building in August of 1814, during the War of 1812, according to Samuel Holliday, director of scholarship and operations with the US Capitol Historical Society.

This isn’t winding down. It’s a standoff. The insurrectionists can see that they’re being treated with kid gloves, much as the Bundy insurrectionists out west were. But police, nat guard, federal police and more are being collected in staging areas near the capitol.It’s going to get ugly after dark.
