brighter outside now. At 6 there was no natural light, and the street lamps

made glowing tent-cones every half-block or so, headlamps on cars sending

matched pairs of gold will-o-wisps coming my way, or a floating red bar

streaking off into the night.

I’d say visibility before dawn was a hazy 200 feet. Folks on the sidewalk

did a gradual fade-in… picking up facial features was difficult until

you’re close enough to say good morning. It was a bit like being on the set

of a cheesy twilight zone episode about the afterlife, or maybe a zombie

movie opening.

I dreamt that I could harden my eyebrows, and shoot the hairs beneath my

forehead like dozens of sharpened darts. Someone saw that I was missing a

few, and called out to me – “yo! vanilla ice!” They were brow-shot shortly

afterward, a volley of needle-sharp hairs plunged into the offender’s

eyeballs.

I launched the needle-brow attack by doing the lee majors arch. no

nah-nuh-nah-nah sound effects, though.

7971 – express lane with ten items or less, and a meme

10 things that make me happy.

  1. Chasing Newt around the house, yelling “woogity woogity woo”
  2. Being Barefoot
  3. Having the day off to do as I please, uninterrupted.
  4. Seeing authority figures look foolish.
  5. Seeing Karma (good or bad) in action (or just seeing people “Do the right thing(tm)“)
  6. Social time with good friends
  7. Sleeping in on a weekend
  8. Monkeys
  9. Hugs
  10. scalding hot and then lukewarm showers

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don’t speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want – good or bad – BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE. When you’re finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON’T ACTUALLY remember about you.

7970 – humpday! bye bye november!

GeotargetMagda surprised me with a phone call yesterday morning. After a quick visit to Target to pick up some equipment, I met with her and we had a spot of dinner, coffee and conversation. Her computer died while in Colombia, thus loss of contact, no phone number or email, but when she got back into town, my info was in the apartment she has here. Newt and I got some nice hugs and kisses! Quite a treat on an otherwise fairly poopy Tuesday.

She’s only in town for three weeks this time, before returning home for the holidays… and then she’ll be back for a bit in January.

Newt’s a little attention hog… he ran right up to her and gave swabby-feet and headbutts.

She brought me some awesome Colombian coffee, right from jaun valdez himself.

RS is helping with work… showing some management finesse. I heard the big boss talking about “giving up and firing everyone”… she has been looking quite a bit more tired than usual this last week or so. If I got fired, my only concern would be that unemployment would take care of funds until I found a fresh gig. I won’t worry about missing kids as I’ve discovered that our org isn’t a unique and beautiful snowflake, and that there are others who would pick up the torch if our ship sank. Er, to mix too many metaphors.

I suspect that 2/3 (or more) of the PR section of our group will have found new jobs before my Birthday (Feb 02), but the office is interviewing hard for an administrative assistant. What we really need is someone to answer the phones and do the scut-work filing and such.

RI is in a bit of a cranky-funk, too. I’ve heard rumor that she’s going ot cut her hours back a bit from 40 to a significant fraction less.

Walk from home to bus stop is 20 minutes. Left this morning at 5:30, just to

be extra sure of a timely arrival at work. Also testing semagic’s “auto

post” feature. It should update my lj at 6.

Bus picked me up at 6am, and had nobody aboard – by 6:10, it was about 25%

full. made it to the office by 7am. looks like I can sleep in until 6ish,

and be out the door by 6:40 safely.

picture is of a crazy statuary shop on las olas, taken after seeing arsenic

& old lace w/danny and his crew.

7962 – quickie

GeotargetAte dinner at RS’s house, met her boyfriend and kidlets. I got along well with them all, perhaps too well. I think RS got a little jealous of the fact that I could interact well with them when she’s had feelings of running away from all of it. She told me that I was not, under any circumstances, to become better friends with her bf than with her. I can understand her fear, but doubt that it’ll happen.

A lot of weirdness in the air at the office. I think most of it is from them trying to get RS to manage me, but none of them are giving her any solid direction, just criticism. I want to be helpful and do good at my gig, so asking me to do things shouldn’t be difficult, should it? Big Kahuna is slowing down… maybe her age is finally catching up with her?

Nice moment of chat with the weezle and she brightened my spirits considerably. Thanks!

7960 – No Newt-pics for Dubai?

Sorry, sedef & family.. if you want to see pictures of my new place, I’ll have to email ’em to you, because  Flickr has been blocked by the UAE government censors for the second time. Blame it on Etisalat (state monopoly teloc), blame it on the TRA (UAE Telecoms Regulatory Authority) the result is the same: no more Flickr for Dubaians.

7959 – I’ve got nothing to say but it’s O.K.

GeotargetGreedy Grateful Dead widow burns down online show-library – Archive.org has been forced to take down over 1000 soundboard recordings of the Grateful Dead by Jerry’s wife and a few (perhaps one) remaining member of the band. Ah well, it was good while it lasted.

Banana Pancakes for breakfast this morning. Yumma. I wonder if there’ll be any left over TeeGee treats at work.

Crabby Jack’s for lunch yesterday was nice. Sort of a “Hooters, but with food that’s worth eating” vibe. Cute waitresses and bartender, everyone is friendly, but not “gimme a better tip” fake-friendly. I sat at the bar, and Kristy was knowledgeable about the area and gave me some good hints on places to visit on walkabout and for eats. She’s been working there for 9 years and seems to really enjoy the place. Mojo, the other bartender has been there for 15 years, works tues-fri.

They have a Karaoke night, cheap & tasty food, wireless ‘net (how I sent palm piccies), open to 3am and has some live entertainment there, so it may be a new hangout. We’ll see, but so far, so good. Kristy advised “The Whale’s Rib” to me, and I may guide Danny or perhaps Magda that way when time becomes available.
