7442 – Love, Hate, Hope, Faith.

Track 15 of 53 (about 4 hours) of Going Postal. Quite pleasant to listen to while eating dinner and petting the cat. Much like old-time radio. Goes a lot slower than my standard reading speed… I can usually grind out a whole book in that span, but the voice talent is a nice trade-off. I’m in no rush, after all. He does a superb Igor, in particular.

Not a bad way to fill time while locked in.

[EDIT: – I slept in until 12:30??? The night was longer than I thought!]

Got a free pie after having to wait 2 hours. I called at the one hour mark, and they mentioned he was on his way… called again at the 1:45 mark, as my place is about 3/4 mile from the delivery joint. Turns out the delivery guy was pinned in at the beach…. I still tipped the guy, as he was friendly and apologetic. When all is said and done, I didn’t mind sitting tight a bit for a large pineapple and green pepper pizza for $2.

Grabbed the Pilot for Global Frequency… pretty typical Sci-Fi channel fare. It has the potential to be a good show, if they step away from the needless stutter-cut/bullet time/speedup-slowdown film/ matrix crap. A neat idea… I hadn’t read the comic, so I don’t know how it compares to the source material. If it got some good writing and stays away from “my cell phone is a mother box” scenarios, I think it’d be a nice blend of Delta Green style Mission Impossible vs. The X-files.

Haven’t watched the new Who episode yet, but I’m sure I will have before bedtime tonight. I have no idea why it came down the pipe so slow… 1600 seeders, and I was only getting 26kB/s? The Daily Show was giving me 165!

I don’t know why nobody seems to seed Kim Possible. It’s the only show I can’t seem to fill my queue with. Thank goodness for DC++ and bittorrent… Since I got NetFlix, I really don’t need to mooch movies online, so it’s all strictly TV rips these days. That reminds me, I need to swap out my current stack of movies, and see what’s heading my way. The first Season of Carnivale and Get a Life, I think. *There’s* a dandy combination.

I forgot about my writing assignment again until just now. I wonder if I’ll ever get around to doing it properly.. doing an outline, writing a rough, stepping away for a day and coming back to edit cleanly. It seems that they’re always born whole cloth, no real structure outside of a scene or two, and just stitched together as I go. Bad form. I think keeping a journal these last few years has actually helped to make me a lazy writer, contrary to my original plan.

If all goes well, I see MP next weekend. I’ve got to clean up the apartment, as I’ve let it go to bachelor slack again.

oneeyedcat and her “praise the lord” bracelets got me thinking about something. Jesus had all those loaves and fishes going on…. nobody thought to make a fish sandwich? (About 1700 or so years before this guy invented it.)

Mister Little Brown Mousie made an appearance yesterday evening, but then high-tailed it behind the fridge. I was afraid to move it, for fear of killing the little guy, so I put Newt in the bathroom, got the broom, and opened my front door in an attempt to make some noise to flush him out and send him packing. No dice. It’s driving me to distraction… I don’t want to hurt him, so I’m going to have to get creative if I want to evict my new housemate.

Speaking of food and large groups:

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has released a game called Food Force. Available for download for free, the game is compatible with Macs and PCs. The WFP’s goal in releasing Food Force is to educate players about world hunger and the work the aid agency does.

The game puts players in charge of a hunger relief effort on the fictional Indian Ocean island of Sheylan, ravaged by a civil war, flooding and drought. You lead a crack multinational team of WFP professionals including a logistics officer, nutritionist and air drop specialist, and you must lead the team through six missions to bring food and supplies to the desperate natives of Sheylan — everything from air surveillance to figuring out a good balanced diet, airdropping supplies, and helping natives get the most out of their natural resources by planning future farming efforts.

Yesterday, I got a post in my journal from Havagan… haven’t heard from him in an age. I rather thought he might show up at the trip to Sith with Kev and the FMM crew, but no such luck. He left IMT/FMM when? Last time I mentioned him in my Journal was 8/8/2001 (or his real name on 1/24/2001), and was already gone (as was Tman and Pixx)

The Momster & Wilt are going on a cruise next week, and she brought over some stuff that wasn’t going to make it through the time they’ll be gone. Score me some blueberry yogurt, granola and diet coke. It came at a good time, because Mr. Cupboard is bare, save for some green beans and tomato soup. yummy, but not exactly breakfast fare. She also gave me a double sawbuck for dinner and a movie, which was quite welcome, too.

RI on Friday raised the question to me in front of everyone else “Who would you say is the most sane person in this office?” and then narrowed it down to just her and me. I answered that sanity is a pretty subjective term, but that I thought that I had a more calm and balanced demeanor, and that she had more personality quirks than I do. (Which is saying something. I think that I’m a pretty quirky guy.) She then got a little perturbed… I think because she wanted to set herself up as the bastion of stability or something. She then wanted me to list out her quirks for her… I really didn’t have any more time to put into that conversation ,and I told her that I’d point ’em out as I saw them. She seemed really surprised… I wonder what set off that conversation before I arrived back at the office?

Speaking of which, note to so many people lately who “keep it real” or whatever: You can tell the truth and explain how you feel about things without being a jerk. People who say “I’m not a bitch, I just tell the truth” seem to think that they’re mutually exclusive. Not the case. You can be up front with a person and not be vulgar about the whole thing.

Got to meet Chloe-puppy and she’s adorable as can be. A four month old baby toy yorkie, about the size of 1/3 of Newton (and weighs even less)

My sweet farm girl, she’s jolly of my pride
My sweet farm girl, she’s jolly of my pride
She knows I know how to keep her satisfied

So early in the morning I cut her grass you bet
So early in the morning I cut her grass you bet
Pull up the hose; I keep her lawn all wet

I close her fire; I shake her ashes down
I close her fire; I shake her ashes down
We eat our breakfast, then we ride on back to town

I keep her garden all free from bugs and weeds
I keep her garden all free from bugs and weeds
I plow her land, and then I sow my seeds

I trim her hedges; I clean out her back yard
I trim her hedges; I clean out her back yard
She loves her daddy because I’m long and hard
