7340 – The day after yesterday, the day before tomorrow

Caught the late night showing of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy… it wasn’t bad. They fit a lot of stuff into 2 hours… People that want the 6 hours of the radio show aren’t going to get it in 1:50. Trillian was lovely (I think dark hair suits her more than the blond she played in Elf – Beautiful Big eyes.), and I liked the nods to the radio and BBC TV series. They Hollywood-ized it a bit, but that’s ok. Kind of odd Seeing Philip from Shaun of the Dead as Slartibartfast, but he did a very good job.

The house was not packed. I’d say that it was about 20% full.

Link to BeaucoupKevin’s Spiffy music post that has that Dr Who Mp3 (and other good stuff)

That Reminds me.. I burned GrayPumpkin’s Dr. Who CDs, but I have to grab postage.

She tries not to shatter, Kaleidoscope style
Personality changes behind her red smile
Every new problem brings a stranger inside

Helplessly forcing one more new disguise

Singing sweet savages lost in our world

Won the Ebay Auction, and sent payment… it should arrive in 2-3 days. They tried to snipe me at the last minute, but fortunately it didn’t go over my max bid.

7337 – Poor Dan is in a droop (palindrome!)

Doing a lot next weekend… Friday with Jeff & B, Sat with Kev. This weekend, not so much. Pay rent, and bills, take call, go to the club, bar food, chit-chat, play with Newtie.

Some folks I know are getting pestered by that Primerica MLM network Scam. They’ve been at it for a while – see Sanjay’s entry.

I remember when they were calling me after I started posting my resume online with Monster and Dice, back in ’03. They claimed I’d be in a management position, but fortunately I sniffed around and found out what was really up. The weird thing was that they didn’t even mention the company name at first.

A Stratellite™ is a high-altitude airship that when in place in the stratosphere will provide a stationary platform for transmitting various types of wireless communications services currently transmitted from cell towers and satellites. It is not a balloon or a blimp. It is a high-altitude airship.

Wifi via airship. Coolness. Sky Pirates of all kinds can’t be far behind!

Moment of not being a total geek. I can wait for Sirenity to be shown on tv. I enjoyed Firefly, but the small screen is just fine. I may do the next Star Wars flick wit h Kev and the gang, though…social nerdity is more fun. I’m far more interested in Romero’s Land of The Dead.

To supply the needed Nerd quotient: The Ladies of Star Trek (HARCOURT FENTON MUDD!)

7336 – observation

I took an extended walk up to the courthouse this morning to take the #1 in to work, rather than bounce from 55 to the terminal.

There is a severe “disco-effect” at the corner of 3rd and broward at about 7am. The sun is still hanging low in the sky, and the mirror-sided buildings send crazy reflections and shadows everywhere.

Las Olas Riverhouse – http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=101609

Bank of America Plaza – http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=100861

Wachovia Center – http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=124371

All reflect off of curves and corners… some light turns blue against the tint. Those reflections in turn bounce off of other buildings, and end up giving me multicolored shadows in blue, yellow and orange. If you look higher than the horizon, you’re asking to be dazzled for at least a second. The effect only lasts for a little while, as the sun rises up over that line of fire, but I wonder about folks driving during that moment. A lot of potential accidents and blind spots. I doubt that the glitterball factor happened by design, but I’m glad it did, as long as it’s safe. When I get a camera worth a bean, I’ll be sure and photograph it.

7335 – Nazi Monkeys and Zombie Cambodians

Met with some folks at Centale about setting up a missing child desktop alert system. I’m skeptical about how we’re going to get it distributed, but it could work, depending on how we go about doing it. We’re going to have to be careful about advertising revenue, too. We don’t want it to be “This message of a child in danger brought to you by McDonalds! Print it out, and get free cookies with your happy meal!”

I may be oversimplifying that last point. We don’t have McDonald’s as a sponsor. Yet.

No Poorhouse last night. The vibe wasn’t right, unfortunately. Ah well, Next time. Maybe tonight and/or next Wednesday.

Also, maybe next Tiki Night? It’s going to be in June.

7334 – I think it’s time to blow this scene, get everybody and the stuff together… ok, 3, 2, 1.

If I had a paradox-proof time machine, I’d certainly want to see the dinosaurs first, even before Jesus, Hannibal or myself as a kid or later in life.

Especially a Triceratops.

Sometimes a little kid never grows up.

I could feel the moonlight on my skin before I fully awoke this morning.. too early for the sun to get me out of bed… well, I take that back.. moonlight is just reflected sunlight, after all. I’m counter to the mythology of most folk… I like the idea of the sun as mother, a giver of energy and life, and the moon being the father figure.. watching over you while you sleep, guiding you through the dark. The moon doesn’t seem feminine to me. I could see the sun as Masculine, but it seems more cheery and bright than scalding and oppressive. A smiley face, not a frowny-face.

Rerun, but I tripped over it again:

Video for William Shatner’s rendition of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Beautifully done.

Famous Last Words

7329 – Tuesday, Tuesday

“In the beginning was water and darkness. A mound of earth rose from the water. From that mound grew a lotus flower. Then Re, the Sun, rose from the island. Re generated two more gods, who coupled to produce Sky goddess Nut and Earth goddess Geb. They, too, mated, producing four children, including Osiris, Isis, and Set. Sometime after, humanity was born.”

I fessed up to Mzk about turning down a semester’s scholarship to clown college yesterday. Clowning was never meant to be a lifelong vocation. I don’t have the balance to do unicycle work these days anyhow. I should work on juggling.

Big brown bear,
blue bull, beautiful baboon

Billy Bunny’s breadbasket and

Buster Beagle’s banjo-

and that’s what…
broke Baby Bird’s balloon.

Trix Cereal is now simple spheres again! (the reduced sugar ones… made with splenda!)

I’ve been getting a nice regular dose of hugs lately. That’s nice… I definitely feel 1000% better after receiving a hug, especially from a pretty girl that smells good.

Fleet Week started.. I need to pick up some of those cards and pass ’em out to sailors in town. I bet I could get 38 more guys through the club’s doors. Still no word about the part time gig there after hours.

More gorgeous weather and moon last night. I was happy just kicking back and reading.

Had a nice social chat with myid8myego last night… Covered some bases [edit – what was I saying?]

I got a very flattering entry written about me in another journal. It’s posted filtered, so I don’t imagine they want to be known for it, but it was remarkably kind. Thank you.

The Country Bears movie was on Disney last night… better than I’d expected. Cute.

Moment of Lyric:

Envy and it’s evil twin
It crept in bed with slander
Idiots they gave advice
Both Sloth it gave no answer
Anger kills the human soul
With bitter tales of lust
While Pavlov’s Dogs keep chewin’
On the legs they never trust

7328 – Woo! Hooray for the Museum ‘f Art

via http://www.kingtut.org/ and http://moafl.com/kingtut/kingtut.htm

Marking the first time the treasures of Tutankhamun (King Tut) have visited America in 26 years, an extensive exhibition of more than 130 artifacts from the tomb of the celebrated Pharaoh and other Valley of the Kings ancestors visits the Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale beginning December 15, 2005. Fort Lauderdale is the only Southeast location to host the treasures.

Featured treasures in the exhibition, which are all between 3,300 and 3,500 years old, include Tutankhamun’s royal diadem (http://www.kingtut.org/gallery/Gold_12.htm )- the gold crown discovered encircling the head of the king’s mummified body that he likely wore while living – and one of the gold and precious stone inlaid coffinettes that contained his mummified internal organs. Opening for a very limited time December 15th at the Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale.

Finally, something a little more significant to me than Princess Diana memorobilia.

That’ll be something I’d be willing to toss out a few bucks to see. Funny what a few thousand years will do to my enthusiasm. Nostalgic, too… I saw when it was touring Boston in ’78, but I was just a cub at the time. I understand more nifty stuff has been added. That’s what got me into egyptologhy in the first place. Any walking undead or ancient curses will jsut be a bonus.

7325 – The work week begins anew.

I saw the short commercial, but didn’t get to see the bit of testimonial footage I did for the longer bit.

The most recent Dr. Who 2-parter was an odd combination of actual drama, slapstick/fart jokes, Men in Black, and an issue of 2000AD. I’m glad that there were repercussions of Rose just launching off like she did. Rather a neat spin on UNIT, too.

I can’t help but wonder if I’d like it as much if I’d never seen the old Dr. Who series as a kid. Probably… they’re pretty entertaining fare.

Next Week… Daleks!

I need to burn episodes 2-5 to a cd, and toss ’em to Graypumpkin.

Freaky Club guy – shaved his face, but not anywhere below the jawline. His behavior was in an odd place, too. He put Mari and Mzk sort of at odds for a bit. I think Mari was suffering from some cramps, to.. I noticed that she was clutching her lower abdomen every so often.

Weather yesterday was magnificent. perfect humidity level, temperature, and amount of sunshine. I would like 100 days like that a year, please.

I have to remember to call up the HR and find out if that thing two weeks ago was fruitful or not. I suspect not, because they didn’t call me.

Newt was amazingly affectionate last night and this morning, doing that trill-purr he does when he’s in happy-happy mode. Sleep was wonderful for the first time in a few weeks.

Got to talk to Tomi voice, albeit briefly. He sounds good, and is still in seeming good spirits. I think it’s been at least 15 years, if not more since we last communicated. A lot of time there… nearly half a lifetime.

Ah, that’s why I didn’t get into Anarchy online.. full screen doesn’t support dual monitors all that well…keeps minimizing, and running it windowed gives me a black screen. Dang annoying.Still, pretty neat when it ticks over properly.

My internal monologue has been strangely quiet lately. normally, I have a multitude things bubbling around inside my head, with different things breaking the surface, like raisins in ginger ale. my Monkey and robot seem to be teaming up against central control. Monkey is behind the whole thing, I’m sure.

H-words:

I never knew the meaning of the term histrionics until I hung out with RP gamers (sadly, more OOC than IC) and read random journals online.

I’d never seen hubris in action until I read livejournal.

What else can be found if you just do a random cross-section? Hedonists. Hysteria. Heckling. Hypochondriacs. Haughtiness. Hyperbole. Hotheads. Hubbub. Hypocrites.

In fact, it seems that I may be a bit hypercritical (as well as a bit hypocritical) when it comes to online journals for the most part. Of the journals I read regularly, very few are like those mentioned above, though everyone has one or two elements there.

Oh yeah. Some good H-words too. Helpers, Humanitarians, Hotties, and Humor. Also, a Herpetologist. (In no particular order) That makes it worthwhile.

Moment of Lyric:

I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind
I left my body laying somewhere in the sands of time
I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
I feel there is nothing I can do, yeah

EN had more tech issues yesterday… the poor guy’s backup machine couldn’t cut it, so he used a neighbor’s machine to take care of things. I’m still glade that Oona and MA are available as backup.

Played around with mzkitten‘s pic yesterday… fun to fiddle with a human model for a change! Got to spend some time chitty-chatting with her, sammykun and uberbastard too. Uber mentioned anarchy online and a nice person in my region that I might want to hang with, too. Anarchy is free until January, so I’ll fool with it for a bit. We’ll see if it’s got the WoW / CoH vibe going for it.

I’m just going to do chores today… maybe go see Kung Fu Hustle with Danny, and maybe hit the ol’ watering hole for a few hours.

I dreamt that I was out on walkabout with Newt… He wasn’t walking… I was pushing a shopping cart, and he was riding in the front compartment. This was obviously an insanely stupid scotto, because he wasn’t on a harness, and
