According to the D&D alignment test, I’m Neutral Good.

descriptions from an old magazine, for folks that don’t play 1st ed D&D…..

An ancient tome once said, “Alignment is a tool, not a straightjacket.” It is a tool that will help you carve out an unique identity for your character. Your alignment can provide the answer fo almost any given situtaion or encounter. Good characters value life, while the evil destroy it. Lawful characters see the group more important than themselves, while the chaotic could care less about the group for they are in it for themselves. Let your alignment help guide you to making the decisions that represent what your character is.

The multiverse is held together by the axes of Good vs. Evil and Law vs. Chaos. Every character has a choice on how closely they want to follow an axis, or how they would like to mingle to create a unique personality. There are nine total alignments, which represent each possible combination of a character’s ethos (Law, Neutral, Chaos) and morals (Good, Neutral, Evil). When you decide on what your character’s alignment will be, remember that the following are generalities only and that each alignment can cover a wide variety of personalities.

Lawful Good: Justice, honor, and goodness are the virtues of the lawful good character. He sees that there is much evil in the world, and he has taken it upon himself to cleanse it through the law. True to his word, the lawful good character never lets a friend down. He is honest and ultimately believes that the law will protect the good.

Neutral Good: Knowing that there is always an average balance of power in the cosmos, the neutral good character knows that siding with goodness won’t tip the scales too heavily. He knows when a law is corrupt, and only follows those that appear to be good. They believe that it is impossible to be devoted to either law or chaos, so they just follow the middle.

Chaotic Good: Villans beware, for the chaotic good character won’t let anything stop them from purging evil from the universe. They are rebels at heart, they have no time to worry about stupid laws. They know that the bad guy isn’t going to play by the rules, so the chaotic good character follows his heart and intrinsic instinct to smite the enemy.

Lawful Neutral: Order is paramount to the lawful neutral character. It doesn’t matter if the laws are good or evil, they are laws and must be obeyed. Discipline is achieved by keeping oneself in control at all times, and never breaking the rules. Lawful neutral characters are the focused soldiers of life, thriving on organization and calm.

Neutral: The true neutral character seeks for the balance in everything. All actions are carefully weighed by how they will tip the scales of power in the universe. Typically, the neutral character fights with the losing forces, even changing sides so that neither keeps an advantage over the other. They see everything as natural and connected, and that too much action on any extreme will throw off the balance.

Chaotic Neutral: Unpredictability is the chaotic neutral character’s trademark. Everything is the flip of a coin: the thrill of living on the edge of chaos. You can never tell what a chaotic neutral person is going to do: they live for the moment, even if their actions may prove to be their last.

Lawful Evil: Using the loop-holes and backdoors of the law, lawful evil characters know how to gain advantages “legally.” They value honor and discipline, but will use technicalities to get what they want. Their word is their bond, but they rarely bestow so precious a thing on anyone.

Neutral Evil: Greed and cunning rule supreme in the eyes of the neutral evil character. They try to get away with what evil they can, but they also try to cover their tracks. They are self-centered and selfish, they want everything but at the expense of others. If the group is the means of obtaining wealth, then they will milk the group for all its worth.

Chaotic Evil: It’s survival of the fittest for the chaotic evil character. Laws are for weaklings, only the strongest of tyrants should reign supreme. A chaotic evil character enforces their power with straight fear, and they see no one as their equal. Chaotic evil characters refuse any form of teamwork: their life is for them only.
